Because the first post I made that you replied to was me saying I hoop with a bunch of 40+ year olds that’s nice regularly :dahell:
So, lemme get this straight.

You a younger fella, in this thread shyttin on older dudes (callin us bums n shyt) for their bodies not being able to hoop like we're accustomed to, because we're over 40.

Is that right? Or am I trippin?

Ya you’re buggin. I’m old enough to contribute to the thread and I hoop with dudes younger and older than me VERY regularly. A lot of yall are just washed and that’s ok. You can take care of yourself enough to play well into old age

I’m really just fukking with y’all, trust me i get it. It gets alot harder the older we get. Recovery is a bytch. But it’s possible and I see it all the time. Once you commit to wanting to play more your body adjusts. Don’t let age stop you from getting buckets!

I'm sure a lot of people can play into their 40's and 50's if they really wanted to.

Truth is some people don't love basketball to that point and/or got other shyt goin on where they can't spend that much time playing in a gym.

Shooting baskets to me was like my round of golf. Then my people eased off on playing, then I got really busy and couldn't do it as much.

Other people want to do something else than spend 2-3 hours 3 days/week in a basketball gym while other people don't want to spend their Friday night doing anything else other than play basketball. Some people stay in shape with a 30 minute gym workout and keep their day moving. But like I said, basketball (and soccer) aren't like football or boxing - most people can choose to get back out there if they really want to at an older age.

I’ll let you know in 5 years lol I’m still in excellent shape & hoop when I get a chance though so as long as I keep at it, I should be fine by then.

Also helps that I have a 14yo son who plays football & basketball too. Gotta keep him at bay since he think he’s nice lol

This is me now. I'm 36. I love the game but when you got work, personal development and relationships to maintain, it's hard to find the time. I just shoot the ball when I can, but that's about it.

Late 30s too and literally just got done with a run a couple of hours ago.

Still running and jumping out the gym. As the old adage goes, you get fit to play basketball and don't play basketball to get fit Focus on strength and conditioning throughout the week and you'll be fine.
This is exactly my approach. I only just started playing again recently (after a five year layoff—achilles) so there’s still a lot of rust at times but some stuff never disappears and I’m legit more athletic than most people even at my age so that makes up for the diminished skills a bit.

This is hilarious the average person at that age isnt fit or atheltic enough to play recreational basketball usually, while lebron is still playing at an all nba caliber level , just led his country to the Gold in the olympics and is still averaging 25ppg while shooting over 50 percent from the field, its insane

To the brehs saying you don’t have time to get in shape…fam, just commit 30 mins per day to exercise and eat properly. You’ll be good. That’s what I did. Dropped 40 lbs in six months. And I wasn’t doing nothing crazy. Three runs per week, calisthenics three times per week, one rest day. And I have bad joints too. Whatever. Play through it.

That said, my performance really depends on how my body feels that day haha. If my knee is good to go then I’m dominating. If my knee is sore then it’s brick city. 🧱🧱

I started feeling the break down even at 29. Sciatic pain has started getting worse the last 5 years. Takes me out from time to time. I am not looking fwd to getting to 40. Unless you're playing with these ~26 D1/AAU types hogging up the court at Lifetime setting their phones up to record. If you're healthy with stamina and skills are sharp, anyone can keep going into their 50s.

In our group, we have at least 4 people who are 42+ and put a lot of the youngsters to shame.

Word!! The other day I had some kids asking me where I play at haha. I had to tell em I’m basically geriatric. I ain’t played anywhere but the local gym in over a decade. Recently started running in some leagues though. That shyt was a rude awakening haha. If you wanna feel washed go join a league with some brehs that used to hoop in college. Your ego gonna be like :sadcam:

Wish I could find some higher level of players to play with out here.
Tired of looking in this place. When it has no local fan fare whatsoever.
