The way I normally do it is just pick around. I look at it as 31 days and these are your options for 31 days. So if there’s something listed on the 31st but it’s October 10, fukk it why not?

We could’ve done a theme month. Like rather than just throwing up a random 31 flicks, could’ve been zombie themed. Or “monster” themed or focusing on a few directors.
Nothing about that seems "loser" or nerd to me - it's unique, we all have our interests
and no, you're not the only one. interesting - we all have something that we nerd out about especially as adults, it's necessary
