Never seen this one despite its reputation. Is it extreme like spit on your grave”-level or not quite as gruesome?
it's extreme and graphic - consider yourself warned.
But it has a purpose - it's not on a torture "porn" level of movie just graphic for no reason. I think since you have an appreciation for horror, we don't view it from the same mindset as people who are only casual viewers. The movie wasn't received well at that time bc the avg movie goer thought it was too much in terms of the violent imagery scenes.

Craven said that he caught a lot of flack for LHOTL back then because a decision was made to open the movie up for a mainstream type release to a wider audience, but looking back, Craven said if he would have just kept to a smaller audience, it would have been more impactful. In a sense, how we view "indie" movies of today. A mainstream audience who only watches popular movies are not going to have the same perspective or respect for the art as much as a independent movie viewer would. We look at the concept of the movie, not just the visuals.

Yeah, the opening bit is FOUL. The ending is messed up too but the beginning was...woof.

Side note: I went and grabbed last year's list bc a few friends were interested when I mentioned we were doing this. Figured I'd throw it in here
So glad I didn’t nominate assault on precinct 13 lol. Past me keeps getting n the way of present me

That’s deep. First time hearing that. Good looks!

The story I always heard him and Sean Cunningham tell is they wanted to make an anti war movie. Vietnam was on tv constantly and they were completely against it. And Wes, being a guy who grew up in a very conservative house and didn’t even see a movie until he got to college, had a lot of pent up shyt to get off his chest in terms of restrictions and rebelling against the fairy tale America sold at that time. It’s why all of his movies are really telling the older generation to go to hell

Ah I see, well put. Gonna have to determine whether I have the stomach for it at runtime.. I’m softer on gruesome stuff these days  I guess this what it’s like getting old

I’ll add these last couple pick to the list when I get home. If people that have already picked wanna throw out a second nomination, feel free

Watching right now. Just started but getting heavy Cube vibes
I had to cut that shyt off.

That movie was an extreme pos, pardon my hostility. What did you think about it and did you get anything from watching it? Had it playing in the background as noise to keep me awake bc I knew that I was not going to be fully engaged, while I was catching on some writing. I had 20 mins to go to finish the movie and couldn't take it anymore. Nothing like Cube imo, Cube was at least purposeful and had creativity as far as the plot and situation. I know what to expect from Netflix original horror - nothing. Movie was a reverse Groundhog Day except this time, the viewer is the one that's being tortured by the never ending continuous cycle of baseless plotlines in this movie.
