20% of females reported being bisexual vs 4% of males. Bisexuality in females is pretty much accepted among both straight men and women, while bisexual men are still by and large considered gay and shunned by both straight men and women.
To conclude that social acceptance has nothing to do with it would mean having to posit that this social conditioning only seems to work on girls, but not boys.
Also, 10% of the 25% are people that have "questioned" or consider their orientation or identity to be "other". That 10% is 3x more than the 3% that identify as gay or lesbian.
The remainder said they were either bisexual (12.1 percent), gay or lesbian (3.2 percent), 'other' (3.9 percent) or said they 'questioned' their sexuality (5.2 percent)
This probably just means more teens these days are more likely to be aware of terms like pansexual or asexual, and identify as such.
