So happy for the Gawd. Dude is the greatest black director who ever lived and a top 5 director of all time.
Even though I liked it I didn't think Black Panther was in the same league as The Dark Knight (which should've gotten a Best Picture nomination), but looking at the other nominees I can see why it get a nomination.
I still wish :logan: had gotten the nom over Darkest HourEven though I liked it I didn't think Black Panther was in the same league as The Dark Knight (which should've gotten a Best Picture nomination), but looking at the other nominees I can see why it get a nomination.
I wouldn’t even look at it that way. The academy has changed in 10 years in some ways which is a good thing. And dark knight broke the mold to make some shyt possible.

The Dark Knight is still the best "superhero" movie to me.Even though I liked it I didn't think Black Panther was in the same league as The Dark Knight (which should've gotten a Best Picture nomination), but looking at the other nominees I can see why it get a nomination.

Well, it's possible now because Best Picture allows more nominees than Best Director.I don’t see how u can nominate a film for best picture and not the director for best director

But what is peculiar about Black Panther is that it's nominated for Best Picture but didn't receive any nominations for the other "top" categories (directing, acting, writing, editing). That has to be a very unique case because it almost seems impossible.
Nah, I must have missed that post.I guess u got me on ignore![]()
I was sayin the same shyt, that's why I believe this selection was more of a bait and switch scenario, get viewers, make everyone happy and then something else actually wins all the awards.
The Dark Knight is a great movie. But as a black man it don’t MEAN shyt to me. Its just another great movie starring white people about white people.
Black Panther MEANS something to me. Culturally and emotionally in ADDITION to being a great movie. When my daughter grows up, it’ll be me and her watching and cheering on Nakia and Okoye, not the Dark Knight. If i’m ever blessed to have a son, we will be watching and cheering on T’Challa and M’Baku, NOT the Dark Knight.
The Dark Knight, in the grand scheme of things, is another white man saving the day. I been watching white men save the day since I was a child. Indiana Jones, Luke Skywalker, Jack Ryan, Robin Hood, Captain Kirk, Conan, Tarzan, James Bond, King Arthur. Any and every story to be told about white heroes, anti-heroes, misunderstood villians, vigilantes, Super spies, space farers, barbarians, Kings, and chosen ones has been told. So in essence, there’s nothing special about it. I have no desire to rewatch it or revisit it. No desire to champion it or sing its praises. I’d debate the merits of Inception before I would Dark Knight.
So what if Dark Knight didn’t get nominated? There are 4337774 OTHER examples of white heroes getting there just dues. There ain’t shyt fresh about Dark Knight. But there IS a freshness and uniqueness to Black Panther
