dont confuse me with the other posters breh...if i ask a question all im trying to do is get an answer...i aint trying to debate or argue or bait people on here...i very likely wouldnt have replied again if you had given any kind of answer to my question...i wont even reply again after this post...

Alright, my bad. :hubie: I just mean everybody who loves good cinema, because Beale Street is one of the most poetic movies about love of the past few years, and it contains individual scenes ten times more powerful than some of these other flicks put together.

The Favourite will win big at the Oscars. Quote me on that.

And Toni Colette got snubbed hard. :smh:

In this field of competition The Favourite should take it all honestly. It's the only English language movie that even has a shot of making my top 3 this year.

'Won't You Be My Neighbor?' not getting nominated for best documentary really hurts. It was so damn good.

It's really crazy. It's almost like they didn't really watch any movies this year.

But I'm not saying it's one or the other, as I said Beale Street is better than at least half the list of Best Picture nominees. But that snub, which to me is the biggest snub this year outside of the exclusion of Burning in the Foreign category, seems to get lost here in the excitement for Black Panther's nom. Outside of my personal opinion that Black Panther is only decent blockbuster fare and doesn't deserve shyt, people should be a lot more pissed that Beale Street was snubbed over the likes of Vice, Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star Is Born, Roma and Green Book (which I actually enjoyed even though it's the safe race pic of the season).

OK, if that's what you're saying, I totally agree.

Yup. As long as you live the straight and narrow, things will work out for you and you'll be A OK. Meanwhile the lady who went out and lived, went through a lot of rough shyt, and actually got experience, dies
Now I'm intrigued to check out some of these takes. I guess this is a way of looking at it, even though I don't think you can say that forest didn't get experience, other than drugs and sex. I enjoyed that one on a very surface level. The fact that this nikka was a bonafide retard and it was some impossible shyt, I just turned my brain off at the door, grabbed nachos and a Sprite, and had fun. Maybe they slipped some propaganda in on me with that one lol.

I wouldn’t call it propaganda. But it definitely has a view. And I believe that view is the same in the book the movie is based on

All the cacs and DC stans are mad as fukk about that BP nod. Salute to Coogler and them.

:umad:

:russ: At the audacity of a white man trying to tell black people what the fukk WE should be excited about and championing.

You gotta one of the most outwardly arrogant Cacs on these boards.

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand I agree that Beale Street is leagues above Black Panther in some regards (cinematography, scores, and acting!), however, Black Panther is not a run of the mill anything. It is a really well made movie (except for the CGI), with excellent costuming, set designs, and storytelling. Just because something is popular and has been done before, doesn't mean it's not good or deserves accolades. I also think black folks don't have to choose between movies to root for. White people never do. They have the luxury of having below average, average, and above average movies to root for every year. Apparently we can only have 1 movie in each category, while white folks get to root for a variety of shytty and non shytty nominees. So while I'm really not cool with Beale Street being shut out, I'm not gonna shyt on Black Panther because of that since it's really a system that was never set up to reward black excellence in all of it's many forms.
I disagree about score. You could prefer Beale Street, but I think from beginning to end that score from Black Panther is incredible.

Acting....about even for me. Primarily because the leads in Beale were just good (amazing supporting performances) and I think for a superhero film BP had the best ensemble acting in years. Who saw Winston Duke coming?

However, there is and will always be something worth wondering about with Black Panther...

You mentioned how Beale's cinematography was vastly superior to BP. It is. I think part of that was because being trapped in a Marvel tentpole film where its harder to really work outside the box.

No matter how great Black Panther is..

We'll always wonder what a 200 million dollar non Marvel Black Panther film would have been like. Something that allowed for the visual flair of Creed. Just thinking about it makes me realize how amazing that film could be. Though no Marvel....no 1.3 billion dollars so..
