And through all of this, Black Panther STILL had a white savior character save the day when he prevented the weapons from getting out of Wakanda during the climax of the film.

:mjpls:

Yea nice try. No.

He wasn’t a “savior” at all. He used superior weaponry that was dumbed down for him and guided by the BLACK woman princess.

Shuri saved the day. T’Challa saved the World. Ross was Shuri’s puppet.

Nice try? That's what happened. That's a GREAT spin on your part tho.

Did we watch the same film? If anything Ross was portrayed as a bumbling idiot. He protested getting in the pilot seat, and then even when he finally got in, he asked Shuri "What do I do now?" to which Shuri replied "Shoot, genius.". His entire subplot, if you wanna call it that was a textbook example of pandering to white audiences. There was never any tension or worry about his task because it was a dumb way to make sure a white boy was included.

I mean... Did we?

That's my point. The lamest character in the movie carries out one of the most important tasks in the entire film, and he so happened to be white. Why was that shyt even written into the movie at all is what I'm getting at.

Dude also took a bullet for tchallas lady. I thought that was dumb. And I didn't like the star wars shooting down the ships at the end either. BP has a lot of flaws especially towards the end but :manny:

What will always put lots of other movies, including TDK, above BP for me was it's third act.

For all of the molds it broke the third act was a highly clichèd and frankly weak conclusion that gets saved by an amazingly written death scene for MBJ.

From T'Challa appearing out of nowhere with his "I didn't hear a bell" to the rhinos we saw set up early on to armies appearing conveniently at the exact right time to save the day to the exact right low amount of planes that have to be shot down to the cgi-final fight - it just wasn't nearly as great as anything else in the film. Except for MBJ's death scene nobody talks about any of that stuff because we've seen it all before. And I think MBJ's vision is the illest shyt I've ever seen in a comic book movie :yeshrug:

I think it got a major pass for the final fights because everything else was just so great.

I have never seen a film that cannot be picked apart, not even Cinema Sins style, just in general. Godfather, TDK, Schindler's List, Logan, BP, Infinity War, it doesn't matter, they're all flawed.

Subjective mediums are a beautiful thing. :JamesBroehs:

Yeah, Black Panther got the same bad deal as The Winter Soldier. It was running great as a somewhat unconventional blockbuster and then the suits probably vetoed that the third act needed to be a typical blockbuster CGI action fest. And BP actually got it worse because some of the CGI is absolutely atrocious.

Multi-billion dollar company using 2004-ass looking CGI.:scust:

These Oscar picks don't move me like they used to. As Hollywood has becoming more and more about ROI, there seems to be less risk taking on niche films that end up as Best Picture fodder. Haven't seen much of these years top picks.

Netflix really did a number on the industry.
