You can be flat out retarded but as long as you're white and have conservative values, you'll be alright in life. :ehh:

I still like the movie but it's ridiculously transparent if you stop to think for just a second :heh:

Yup. As long as you live the straight and narrow, things will work out for you and you'll be A OK. Meanwhile the lady who went out and lived, went through a lot of rough shyt, and actually got experience, dies

Ridiculous Snubs

Toni Collette and Heredity just because it's a horror and disturbing. The Academy is so spineless
Won't You Be My Neighbor is a fukkING MASTERPIECE. WTF? Seriously
Beale Street and Barry Jenkins got robbed
And how do you nominate a movie for best picture and not the director (i.e. Ryan Cooler). That shyt never made sense to me.

I hope Nicole Kidman and crew can be nominated for next year for Destroyer. It looks like she worked her ass off, but I haven't seen that one yet.

I refuse, REFUSE to see Green Book because it looks so damn wack, I just can't bring myself to see it, even with movie passes.

The only movie I'm seriously rooting for though is Into the Spiderverse. Everything is really politics but this movie cannot be denied it's props.

I agree with damn near everything you said.

Also if you're into The Destroyer, the director was on an episode of this podcast called The Witching Hour. She got really insightful about her experiences in Hollywood, working on The Destroyer, and how she feels like she failed Megan Fox with Jennifer's Body

@NobodyReally let me explain a bit more lol. She talked about how the marketing for the movie just didn't portray the movie they were making. At all. And the movie was killed before it came out. Reviews quoted the marketing material (showing they didn't actually see the movie or they were lazy) and that it was marketed as this sex pot comedy when it wasn't that at all. So people never gave it a shot. Those that did, love it.

And she feels like it ruined Megan because she feels Megan is a really good actor and really funny, and she never spoke up for her when it came to the marketing and dealing with the studio. Rather than letting the studio control how the movie was marketed and how THEY saw Megan, she needed to convey to them what she saw and what she was going for and how funny and dope Megan truly was in her role.

Holy shyt. I wonder how Megan feels about this information? Perhaps she already knew all of this. TBH, I feel like after Megan rebuffed Michael Bay, she got blackballed and treated poorly in Hollywood. But that's really cool the director spoke up and said those things. It's amazing though how marketing can completely sell or tank a film regardless of quality. And really it affects the Academy's votes as well because we know a lot of the people voting don't even watch all of the movies they're voting on. It's such fukked up game.

Also, you guys are so obsessed with Black Panther you don't even realize how bad they snubbed If Beale Street Could Talk. It's a better film than half that list of Best Picture nominees and folks should be outraged about it instead of cheering the forced inclusion of a run-of-the-mill blockbuster movie.
:russ: At the audacity of a white man trying to tell black people what the fukk WE should be excited about and championing.

You gotta one of the most outwardly arrogant Cacs on these boards.

I’m not sure. She (the director) said she didn’t think of it until one of her students asked her if there’s anything she would’ve done differently with Jennifer’s body. And she said it hit her that she should’ve stood up for Megan more. She felt like Megan never got a fair shot again after that.

Even post Michael bay she was still getting looks. And bay even welcomed her back in the fold. But everyone still sees her as just a pretty face and that only works for so long till the next pretty face comes along. And in terms of that, her time was up. Karyn Kasuma (the director) really wishes that whole movie was marketed better but she’s glad it’s found its audience now. It was a bit ahead of the curve. She said she really didn’t know the studio just saw Megan as a sex object. Like that was really it. She got the job because that’s how they wanted to sell the movie smh

Blackkklansmen with all those nominations and not one for Sorry to Bother You or Blindspotting?

giphy.gif

Sorry to bother you had a polarizing third act that divided many critics and the audience. Don’t get me wrong, i personally loved it and it wss creative as hell, but the movie didn’t do the business that it would have needed to break out at mainstream awards like the Oscars. It would have had to do Get Out numbers to leave a lasting (mainstream) impression.

Still i feel like the movie accomplished what it set out to do. Establish Boots Riley as a cultural force to be reckoned with and i’m sure his next movie will be excellent.

Blackkklansmen is just getting vastly overrated, and out of all the "Black" films this year, that's the safest one that dropped

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand I agree that Beale Street is leagues above Black Panther in some regards (cinematography, scores, and acting!), however, Black Panther is not a run of the mill anything. It is a really well made movie (except for the CGI), with excellent costuming, set designs, and storytelling. Just because something is popular and has been done before, doesn't mean it's not good or deserves accolades. I also think black folks don't have to choose between movies to root for. White people never do. They have the luxury of having below average, average, and above average movies to root for every year. Apparently we can only have 1 movie in each category, while white folks get to root for a variety of shytty and non shytty nominees. So while I'm really not cool with Beale Street being shut out, I'm not gonna shyt on Black Panther because of that since it's really a system that was never set up to reward black excellence in all of it's many forms.

Ant-Man & The Wasp really stepped the game up :mjlol:
I said it forced them to I didn't say they would be successful, I guarantee Infinity War would've been rated higher if Black Panther didn't come out before it.

And that's the main issue, why do we have to argue against one black movie just to prop up another? If we're going to do that then Green Book is clearly the one that needs to be left off, considering all the bullshyt and lies that are filled on screen and behind the scenes.
