You are wrong. every NFL rookie ever has talked about how the other side of the ball is faster than they're used to. I can't believe I'm even having this argument.

faster or better anticipation :aicmon: theres a difference

you could have all the speed in the world but if you dont commit to a gap you arent gonna tackle someoen in the backfield

theres much more to it than just speed, but when you have to defend 3-4 less yards it doesnt hurt either

all it take is to just watch the game to see this gizzle, i implore you to just observe and really pay attention to how much space there is in the NFL vs college

outta how many and how's he been doing lately? spread QBs dont really do shyt in the NFL

I think you need to consider that EVERY QB who played out of a spread in college isn't limited in his skill set to that.

Look at Drew Brees, Sam Bradford, etc.

Some dudes can play out of any set/scheme....some other dudes just suck

thats cause most them aint good to begin with

teams work with the talent given to them, most fbs defenses aren't good, if lucky most will just have 1 guy in the back (safety or cb) who can actually be a shut down type, so why not spread out your receivers for easy passes:manny:

there are some good qbs in the system but its been getting unfairly hated on for years imo.

most spread qbs are like rbs for air force and navy and georgia tech yeah they will get like 150-200 yards rushing a game, but they aint getting drafted

Even if the space argument makes sense, there are guys who kill it and are very very good in college football who are not fast enough to play in the NFL. The NFL is full of guys who are WAY faster than all of their team mates, and way faster than all of their conference, and are way faster than everybody else around them. But don't even make it to the Combine. The NFL is literally the best of college football it is faster players why is this not understandable to you?

yeah but it wasn't until the last five years or so that the spread offense really become spread out across the landscape

for many years the spread was run by smaller and less successful teams looking for an advantage of the system and get an edge

now there's teams in the upper echelon running the spread with highly recruited QBs...so the dynamic is changing

more high schools are running the spread as well...your seeing NFL teams run more spread style attacks...more passing...more shotgun...especially with the pass interference rules changed the way they have been over the past five years

so saying things like "no spread QBs are successful" is a bit myopic

in five years if none of these new spread QBs are making Pro Bowl teams then we can talk

but Griffin and Newton are off to solid starts...Geno Smith will likely get a chance at the next level as well...Weeden and Tannehill are rookies who ran spread attacks in college...neither has looked great...but they are rooks

so let's not make grandiose statements about what will and won't work until there's more evidence.

Basically all you need to do is look at the difference between high school and college, and college and the NFL. Lotta guys BEAST in high school...but get to college and don't pan out and ride the bench. Same thing happens from college to NFL. Everything shakes itself out.

It's no so much as speed alone, as it is just overall awareness and getting to the right places on the field, and players make decisions FASTER and anticipate faster so the game itself is faster.

There's ppl in the NFL that aren't very fast, but know their assignments. There's probably plenty of LB's faster than London Fletcher at this point, but he knows where to be at to involve himself in every play.
