Exactly, I don't know why more teams aren't trying to jump on these deals. You get the player while another team is paying most of the salary.

gotta be under the salary cap to get first bids, plus the bids are blind so you have to take a chance on what you offer being the highest.

Yeah I know how it works but it's not like the Billups one last year where he told everyone not to sign him and he ended up going for a lot less than he should have. If Brand was a free agent, some idiot would have tossed $8-$10 mil at him so why does a $2.1 mil bid end up winning him? If you don't win the bid, you aren't out anything so there's really no risk in throwing out a dummy bid to all of the guys that get waived.
