The Orlando Magic are still trying to find a graceful way out of the Dwight Howard situation.

While many hours have been spent exploring various deals with the Brooklyn Nets, so far Orlando has yet to trigger anything but rumors, speculation and anticipation.

Trying to construct a three or four team deal is difficult but when you add in the sign and trade factor, it’s only compounded by conflicting interests.

Brooklyn still has a real chance to get Dwight but other suitors are still in pursuit.

HOOPSWORLD has learned that there’s been preliminary discussion between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets that would involve sending Andrew Bynum to the Rockets and Howard to the Lakers.

The Magic are not necessarily in love with the idea of giving either Bynum or Lopez a sizable, long-term commitment as they go through a major roster overhaul. Draft picks and prospects, a la the Denver Nugget return on Carmelo Anthony, is said to be more appealing to Orlando.

The Rockets have no assurance from Howard that he’d re-sign there and while they might be willing to take that risk, Bynum has privately expressed a willingness to be in Houston long term.

Houston has a tremendous haul of young, cheap players to offer. They also have a passing interest in Ramon Sessions – as the Lakers do in Courtney Lee.

LA has some confidence that Howard would eventually re-sign with the Lakers but a major qualm is to date, Dwight has resisted such a move. Additionally Los Angeles wants to make sure Dwight’s back is truly healthy.

The Rockets have also had interest in Pau Gasol, moving Luis Scola and Kevin Martin. It’s difficult to imagine the Lakers giving up on Gasol before playing him alongside Steve Nash but LA has been looking to reconfigure their salary structure for some time. It’s unclear how far teams would take discussions should they gain traction.

Certainly the status of center Omer Asik would play into Houston’s decision as they’re giving him a three-year, $25 million offer sheet once the signing period begins. The Chicago Bulls will have three days to match, which could delay any resolution involving the Rockets until then.

Just as the Brooklyn conversation lingered and died and may still have life, there’s nothing said to be imminent between the Lakers, Rockets and Magic but it’s one of many possible paths as the Magic try to step into their future post-Howard.

Another day, another reported deal involving Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard.

Yahoo Sports reported the latest proposed trade involves three teams and at least 10 players in addition to multiple first-round draft picks.

The Brooklyn Nets have emerged as the most likely landing spot for Howard, who said two weeks ago that Brooklyn is the only team on his wish list and that if traded elsewhere, he’ll refuse a long-term contract extension.

The Lakers’ reported offer of center Andrew Bynum and a first-round pick might not be as attractive considering Los Angeles parted with its top pick in 2013 and ’15 to land point guard Steve Nash last week. In addition, the 24-year-old Bynum is in the final year of his deal and, like Howard, wants to control his long-term marketability by going to free agency next summer. One the Howard situation is settled and the Lakers decide the future of Pau Gasol, Bynum is a candidate for a maximum contract with the Lakers.

The deal on the table as of Monday involved Howard, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark going to the Nets in exchange for Brook Lopez, Damion James, Sheldon Williams and three future first-round picks from the Nets. Cleveland would trade Luke Walton to Orlando and in return the Cavaliers would reportedly receive Quentin Richardson from Orlando, Sundiata Gaines and Kris Humphries from the Nets, who would also throw in $3 million and a future first-round pick.

The final part of the deal: the Nets need to find a fourth team willing to trade a first-round pick for guard MarShon Brooks. ESPN reported the Clippers emerged as the landing spot for Brooks and would send a lottery-protected first-rounder to the Magic

smh another 6'9 SF the Sixers got now? And the Bulls couldn't even trade for him either? lol fukk is wrong with them.
Kirk Hinrich is coming back to the Chicago Bulls, according to The Chicago Tribune’s K.C. Johnson. Hinrich has verbally agreed to what is probably the Mini Mid-Level Exception on Sunday morning, worth $6 million over the next two years.

Hinrich was traded to Washington on draft day two years ago and has since also played for the Atlanta Hawks. While his abilities have admittedly waned in that time, he’s a great fit for Chicago this year as someone who can hold down the fort for Derrick Rose while rookie Marquis Teague comes into his own. Once Rose is healthy and Teague has developed, Hinrich will serve as a third-string point guard and a back-up for Richard Hamilton at the two.

This also likely means the end of C.J. Watson in Chicago. Watson, who has a $3.2 million team option, already was on the fence as to whether or not he’d be brought back, but this move and the drafting of Teague all but guarantees he’s out the door in Chicago.

The Bulls now will turn their attention to other players they may be able to get from the bargain bin. They reportedly have shown some interested in Michael Redd, and last week the team had a good, lengthy meeting with Gerald Green, but there was no indication that he’d be in Chicago’s price range. They definitely need someone like Green–athleticism and scoring from the wing–but if they choose not to match Omer Asik’s $24 million offer sheet from Houston, they could be in the market for a backup center as well. Someone like Chicago native Nazr Mohammad, who just won a ring with the Oklahoma City Thunder, would be a logical eventual target.

When the NBA free agent period began July 1, the Grizzlies raced toward well-known and highly productive guards — with a $5 million mid-level exception in tow — only to be met by stop signs at every turn.

However, general manager Chris Wallace remains confident that the Griz will satisfy their goals of adding a shooter and backup point guard.

“All the people we’re talking to (now) have a track record,” Wallace said. “Have they made all-star teams? No. But how many free agents out there have? We were involved with Ray (Allen). We offered him more money (than Miami). We were right there with Jason Terry. We’ve talked to a ton of people since this started.”

Snubbed by Allen and Terry, and unable to get an audience with several other established players, the Grizzlies’ road in free agency has narrowed with guards Willie Green, Jodie Meeks and Jordan Farmar now in their sights, according to sources.
