$15.00 an hour isn't a lot of money.

Well you have to live within your means. Moving to a cheaper (but safe area), public transport to save up and get a better place, cook your own food instead of eating out, Netflix instead of cable...you have to prioritize. It ain't a lot but people can survive if you aren't living in Manhattan, Frisco, or a place similarly expensive.

You know they will just automate all the service oriented tasks at those fast food joints anyways so less workers there and a few people getting a higher minimum wage won't cripple any workplace. It's already happening. Cashiers will be extinct within our lifetime.

Imagine cashiers and Wal Mart workers being laid off? Unemployment will be like 50%. Better to get basic income checks or else riots will engulf America.

Places like Walmart are doing that now and have for years. Most of their registers are closed. They may have two or three actual cashiers, but for the most part you gotta check out at the self check. That concept just saved Walamrt money, they didn't transfer that into higher wages. for the few cashiers they have.

You guys not being honest. 15 bucks an hour is struggling no matter where you live if you're living decently, and have normal bills.
exactly. Even in a city that's not super expensive like KC, $15 is okay, but as soon as your car breaks down, or you have some other unforeseen expenses it's a wrap. This isn't the "good ole days" where people could support a whole family and mortgage with some basic job. People still on that "i could mow lawns and pay for college" type of bullshyt. Todays economy is completely fukked for the majority of people that aren't born into some type of wealth. And i'm not even talking about rich. But if you're coming from nothing like a lot of black people, all that "with $8.50/hr just cut corners" shyt is laughable.

And fast food workers aren't the only people making less that $15. Can't frame the whole topic around one job.

funny how Cali and NYC seem to do fine. if they were their own countries they would be the 5th and 17th highest in the world
We're also taxed at damn near European rates. Living in either state, between fed, state, and local tax, please expect to lose 40% of your pay off top

I have family that lives in the south. Some doing quite well, but they've been in their careers quite some time. My younger members are the ones taking the hit having to work through temp services which don't pay shyt.

15 dollars is enough, if you save money and live within to below your means.

In major cities like DC, DMV, LA, San Fran, NYC it's going be hard but do-able.

Budget, save and get rid of the emotional and impulse buying.

I think nearly every form of retail will double job people so strictly cashiers will be a thing of the past, a lot of people despise self check out though so companies will still have to provide workers trained on good ol manual inputs though.
