Watching the 1st fight live...i had the initial impression that AJ was thoroughly outboxed and dominated in the fight, due to all the knockdowns and the whole hilarity of the event and upset, it was hard to properly assess the fight in real time.
But after re-watching the fight shortly after...i didn't see AJ get thoroughly outboxed, on the contrary, i thought he boxed well, was countering effectively and was the one doing the outboxing up until he dropped Ruiz and then got overly excited, got wild, then got clipped with that left hook and just never recovered.
I think if Joshua takes a more economical approach, pick his shots carefully, lower his punch output, shy away from brawling and keep the fight out of phone booth distance, and tie Ruiz up whenever he closes the distance, i think AJ could take a relatively clear decision.
We gon find out where his heart and his head is at though...because with a more disciplined and scaled back approach to this fight, there's no reason why he shouldn't be able to beat Ruiz clearly.
Also don't know how the weight loss is going to effect AJ...taking off all that weight was completely unnecessary and had nothing to do with why he lost.
