I gotta say in hindsight, it was a good show for the younger crowd... every generation has their specific music show for that era that they'll always remember. There's a lotta people (esp. in their early-to-mid-20s) who grew up watching 106 and were in the crowd and got to see artists of their era, can't be mad at it.
BUT... like some people in the thread have said, everything ends eventually, and it was time. 106 (or any video show for that matter) isn't that viable nor a priority in this era. When there's stuff like Youtube, and a bunch of other ways to watch videos, AND videos aren't as big a deal as they used to be anyway... video shows aren't the priority they were 12 years ago, or even 5 years ago for that matter. It was bound to happen someday.
I wasn't even a big fan of the show like that, cause it was more geared toward kids and teens and I was older... but I do see how relevant it was and how it grew to be BET's central video show. If BET had a show like that in the '90s (nah, Teen Summit's not the same thing), I woulda been in the crowd/watching for sure, so I respect it for what it was. But it's also been wack juice for a long time, so it's time to wrap it up. Just like Bandstand ended, Soul Train ended, Yo! and Rap City ended, Video Soul ended, and TRL ended. Salute.
R.I.P. to the days of video shows being a relevant part of TV programming tho'... 106 was sorta the last remnant of that. Everything else from those years is gone.
