Most of the nations ARE stable(outside of South Sudan and Somalia) and with GOOD militaries. What are you talking about? And what does poverty and illiteracy rates have to do with a military union?
Ethiopia, S Sudan, and Somalia are stable? thats 100+ million people right there btw
son asked me an open ended question so i gave him an open ended answer.

Didn't I not say outside South Sudan and Somalia? And Ethiopia despite the treatment of certain ethnic groups IS stable. I don't get what population numbers have to do with anything. He asked an open ended question because you didn't elaborate on your post.

Now if east, west, and south combined...wait...before the naysayers come flying in....

If they maintained their separate forces but agreed to unite at threats to any nation in the Union, the diaspora should definitely contribute funding in exchange for say dual citizenship.

Fellas that would be :blessed::blessed::blessed::blessed:

I used to be so pissed pan-Africanism failed in the 60s and 70s but after seeing the shyt show the EU is degenerating into, maybe it is good Africa had to wait and can learn from that project as it teeters.

Think about having a unified currency is you need some sort of fiscal harmonization and no trade barriers (and likely no migration barriers). Africa's borders are pretty porous already but it would be a huge challenge given.

The important thing you mentioned is 'fiscal harmonization'. Having a case like Portugal, or worse Greece in a hypothetical African economical cooperation bloc would have a deleterious effect in the region. Imagine a Congo having a political/economic crisis and half of the country swarms into neighbouring countries in the region. :francis:

Almost all of the countries in Africa would need to be middle-income economies with several election cycles that go smoothly for it to even be feasible.

It looks like this is a bit like the ECOWAS forces that intervened in Sierra Leone and I think Liberia too. There are a few issues that I am curious about:

2) Given the track record of the EAC in trade and economy harmonization (spotty at best) I'm hoping someone better is managing this. There should have been a robust trade bloc and connecting infrastructure in East Africa decades ago. I would put the EAC in 3rd place at best as far as strong regional organizations behind SADC and ECOWAS.
Infrastructure is the one sector that EAC has capitalized on the most. There is definitely alot of robust trade going on right now. I believe it is much more connected than ECOWAS.
As for institutions ECOWAS and SACD don't have parliaments. EAC has a capital and legislative assembly based in Arusha. Arusha is what Brussels is to the EU.

Who's talking about threat? Its about defense. And this would defer any attempts from Arab nations like Egypt and add more security against terrorist like Al Sahaab. The heck are you even talking about?

This is more for Egypt. Somalia is apart of this too...

This concerns us as well, it is not in Ethiopia's national interest to see a strong centralized federal government. If the federal gov't in Mogadishu was smart. They play off that conflict on the dam. Even though Egypt's opposition is our position as well strategically.

Are you freaking serious? Saudi Arabia can't even beat a unstable and broken Yemen(with the aid of other nations mind you) and you freaking expect them to EASILY beat the combined might of SEVEN countries????? Ethiopia alone is in the top 5 militaries in Africa, Ethiopia ALONE would give Egypt trouble and you think they would be able to take on a bunch of countries?? Egypt would suffer huge casualties and would back down due to exhausting resources. Same goes for Jordan(who is even less formidable than Egypt) and Israel(who does not even have the manpower to invade an entire region). Stop speaking on shyt you know little about. You dont just come off as a cac/c00n but a moron.
