No chrono trigger or ff6 is a huge fail top 5 lol. Although I gather that you probably started playing RPG's around the ps1 era from the looks of your list so I can understand that.

Ff6 is in my top 10 as is chrono trigger. I wasn't big on square games though. Xenogears was the only one I picked up really because my cousin had it and recommended it. Breath of fire 2 was my first RPG.but I didn't really get them until PSOne.

My list (Shamefully I have never played Suikoden

Chrono trigger (all time king)
Xenogears (amazing game on so many levels)
Phantasy star 4 (sci fi enthusiast dream. Great game)
Secert of Mana ( amazing action jrpg, that supported 3 player co op)
Breath of fire 3 (even though I barely remember the plot)

You need to plan Suikoden 2. If you have psn it's 5 bucks right now.

I also just realized I've played Suikoden 3 four times, loved it, and only got as far as them all meeting up. What the fukk.

I just bought grandia 2 for steam. I used to love it on ps2

Too many JRPG's I've played and loved to just limit it to 5, but here are the ones I can remember off top or had the most fun with in no particular order.

1) Brave Fencer Musashi 1 -
2) Final Fantasy 8
3) SaGa Frontier 1 (I mean the whole series is piff if you can hack it, but 1 is the first that just had me music, game play, everything)

4)FF Tactics -
5) Star Ocean 2

Honrable mentions - Tactics Ogre (Played FF first and hold more memories with that, but this game still awesome), Xenogears, Suikoden 1-3, Breath of Fire 3,4, Chrono Trigger, La Pucellie tactics, Dark Cloud, Front Mission 3, Super Mario Rpg, SaGa Frontier 2 (fukk..the entire series is piff!), Alundra, the Disgea series...shyt..I'll stop.

98-99 was just for the Playstation back in them days. I had to sit and think about the hundreds of hour I spent with each game in my list (Brave Fencer Musashi wasn't a long or hard game, but it was one of the most genuine RPG experiences I had second only to Super Mario rpg for just making me go ) I'd come home from school, take a shower, fire up the Playstation and JUST, fukkING, EAT. I got my original copies and a working playstation to pass on to my future seeds. I had so much fun with those games and I really miss that shyt 'cause I haven't gotten into a JRPG that hardcore since maybe FF-X . I need to replay them shyts.
