Nah I remember EVERYONE enjoying and praising No Limit Top Dogg, from old Snoop fans to westcoast fans to No Limit fans. B Please was a hit, Down 4 My N's later on too. Plus the reunion with Dre made waves. Album went double plat iirc

nah.
this was when the talk of snoop being a one-album wonder, became official.
hes considered a one-album wonder for a reason, and this album was his last chance to avoid that title cuz he had no excuses. he wasn't dealing with death row being in disarray(doggfather) and he wasn't sounding like a guest appearance all thru his own album(game is to be sold).
im not saying the album was wack or anything. im sure he had his fans who enjoyed it. but the general feeling was of disappointment.
the fact that people are in here even considering it for top 10, is kinda odd. on one hand, its maybe because the year was relatively weak in terms of album quality, compared to the rest of the '90s.
Breh, in 1999, Top Dogg was considered one of the better releases of that year. Definitely wasn't the last straw for Snoop because Last Meal was a bigger deal than Top Dogg.
i didn't say it was the last straw for snoop's career. im saying it was the last straw for snoop ever being considered a contender again. after this album, he was basically just seen as uncle snoop the lovable rap entertainer. and its been that way for the past 20 years.
I remember a lot of people hated the last meal too.
we really gonna act like snoop isn't seen as a one-album wonder now?? this place is getting bizarre.
Snoop Dogg wasn't no Uncle Snoop Dogg with this album. He didn't get that brand until around the Paid The Cost To Be The Boss era when he started working with The Neptunes. His sound and image changed. Snoop went from "Lay Low" to "Beautiful".
Snoop Dogg is not a one album wonder. That is more fitting to a Lauryn Hill, Method Man than a Snoop Dogg.
LOL. I just knew you were gonna take the "uncle snoop" comment literally and take this conversation elsewhere.
I knew I should've deleted that chit.
I personally don't feel that snoop is a one-album wonder, but thats the general consensus. don't take it up with me.
that's what im saying.
im noticing that a number of snoop albums are being viewed with rose-tinted glasses nowadays.
I don't remember what the lead single for this album was. I don't think B-please was the album's lead single or was it??

Who took the "uncle Snoop" comment literal? Everybody knows that is something he became in the early '00's.
Snoop being a one album wonder isn't general consensus. Him having only one classic album is as close to general consensus as it gets. It's a pretty unpopular opinion that Doggystyle was his only dope album or that he didn't have other albums that were good or even great. Blue Carpet Treatment, Last Meal, and Top Dogg are considered some of his best work. They aren't classics though.

he had a storytelling video out first, that went nowhere.
G Bedtime Stories was kind of a "street single" first, then B Please as the big mainstream single/vid with Dre producing/reuniting with Snoop. Later on Buck Em/Down 4 My N's came out as a duo video/single
