He's cool... but honestly, I don't get what the big deal is. Donuts seems mad overrated to me. It's not wack by ANY means: it just never clicked for me.

I'd appreciate it if Dilla fans could link me some of your favorite Dilla joints that I may not have heard. I respect the hell outta dude, and I feel like maybe I missed something.

I will agree and add this:

It is amazing what Sean “Puffy” Combs was able to sell to the people.

B.I.G. is absolutely one of the greatest rappers we’ve ever heard - but we wouldn’t have known that without Ready To Die. He was (A) gonna sit the bench at Uptown if Puff didn’t start his own chit, or (B) probably not rap at all if Puff got the job at LaFace like he wanted.

Craig Mack was a dude who had a li’l street buzz some time waaay before Puff got to him. “Flava N Ya Ear” was basically a comeback joint, nobody coulda thought that album was gonna catch on like it did...

Same with G-Dep, Black Rob & Loon - they were background dudes on other teams that Puff put up front for a minute.

Ma$e was somebody rapping on the street in slides - you could argue he was the 3rd best rapper in his crew

Total was an R&B group that don’t sing great, but damn if they don’t got jams.

Puff got the absolute best out of what he had to work with...

Don’t forget about 112 breh

He's 100% a legend but nikkas are biased and lying in here. Especially when its documented that Jada penned songs as initiation for him...(not that he needed it)

you think it's true for Mase too? read mase did something similar...like I think Mase supposedly wrote Big's Only You verse

There's no doubt in my mind that Nas would have pulled it off. If I Am... doesn't get leaked, we're looking at one of the greatest three-album runs in the history of music. That could have changed many of the perceptions about Nas' career, especially at the time.

It's sad to think about all the great things that never happened because I Am... leaked. Then again, if it didn't leak, we probably don't get Stillmatic or The Lost Tapes.

I've talked about about it too much on here probably but the original I Am is rap's greatest "What if?". It would have made the GOAT argument a lot harder for people who say Nas isn't the GOAT. Nastradamus definitely wouldn't exist and Lost Tapes probably wouldn't exist either (or would just be different songs, more like the Death of Escobar tracklisting) and Stillmatic maybe woulda had Doo Rags, No Idea's Original and Purple on it, making it even stronger. The battle still happens I think, but Jay can't lean on the one hot album narrative. I also think it would have changed Jay and X's career somewhat too because it would be more about conceptual songs than commercial club songs. I wonder if the person who leaked those songs in 98 even knows they completely changed the course of rap history lol.

1)Sean is very hit or miss...

But yea the disprect is some online shyt...

Offline brehs either fukk with him heavy or not all.

2)Cole and Kendrick being top 3 of this current generation.

From coast to coast Future gets more bump in the streets and suburbs than BOTH.

When people makes those lists, it's for a certain kind of rap, Future isn't in that category.

If we talking trap rappers then yeah it's

1. Future
2. Lil Baby
3a. Youngboy
3b. Durk
4a. Thug
5b. Gunna

Right now.

But you wouldn't put Cole and Kendrick in that category. You wouldn't even put Drake in there

The other ones? Maybe but Biggie and Mase were super talented...they were meant to be..they got the voice and lyrics to always stand out. Puffy did alot of rehash music...he's nowhere near as talented as DJ Quik, Daz, or Dre. Never was. He was more of the right place...right time.

Biggie rapped for almost 10 years and only dropped 2.5 albums ... the features are same shyt most artists have

Jay-z alone had better runs multiple times and more features
while rapping before during and after BIG

How you figure BIG was rapping for almost 10 years? He recorded his first demo tape in 1991. Debut album in 1994. Died in early 1997. That's 6 years tops. He'd recorded two classic albums and was one of the biggest rap stars of all time when he died at 24.

Jay was trying to get on for 8 years before dropping his debut at 26.

Whoa now!

The chronic is a lot of rehashing beats and samples too.

Without Puffs ear and vision I don’t think ready to die or life after death will be as complete as they are

puff is not only responsible for classic hip hop records but also R&B. Puff has the vision and mind to put the pieces of the puzzles together.

puff has done A LOT. His resume is freaking amazing man.

i don’t understand the downplaying when it comes to him

alot of biggie overrating in here

and puff dikkriding

diddy inherited his dads spot and invested even more into the A&R shyt
he exploited all of his artists for his own benefit

Biggie rapped for almost 10 years and only dropped 2.5 albums ... the features are same shyt most artists have

Jay-z alone had better runs multiple times and more features

Big was also set up for failure if death wasnt around the corner, not even mentioning his declining health and diabetes with his eyesight and morbid obesity

He's 100% a legend but nikkas are biased and lying in here. Especially when its documented that Jada penned songs as initiation for him...(not that he needed it)

He was right place right time and wrong place wrong time at the same instance
his great skill, charisma and voice made him solidified ... but his work ethic was trash, his group was trash, his label was trash etc He wasnt even in the best spot based on having solid backup in the realm of people who hated him (even if you take PAC out of the equation) even his own wife hated him
I think you have to take back Biggie work ethic was trash. He wrote whole albums for his crew. His catalogue suffered because of that.. But work ethic aint a good take whatsoever

Still trying to understand that take :mindblown:

He dropped his debut September 1994 and by March 1997 he'd released two classic albums, one of them a double, and a crew album that he wrote most of. And had plenty guest spots starting in 1993
