2 that bug me the most -
tupac being basic...dude rhymed with the wisdom of a 200 year old. he wasn't rappity but he was very seldom wasteful with the shyt he was saying. and flat out, he was better than big

dilla being the best thing that ever happened to hip hop - it's documented, he couldn't even best qtip. let alone pete rock, premo, large professor, beatnuts, organized noise...hell, audio two, king of chill, rza.... I could go on...dilla was dope tho
I love Dilla. I was BUYING his albums when he was still going by Jay Dee. I have Jaylib doubles and all types of Dilla vinyl, slum village cds, etc.. When he died, that increased his popularity by 100. I read his autobiography in about 2 weeks. Some things I knew, a LOT I didn't. I didn't know that he made little to no money before he died because he wasn't getting placements. A lot of people just weren't fukking with him like that and as soon as he died, EVERYONE became a fan. That's that fake shyt. It became cool to wear Dilla shirts and post it online. White people are obsessed with death and dead artists. If Basquiat was alive today, could he sell his paintings for $30-100 million a piece? It's just something about a dead musican that drives white people crazy. They don't give a fukk about you when you're alive, but as soon as you die, you're their favorite.. Dilla is one of the greats, but as I mentioned earlier in this thread, he received a lot of criticism for the following albums he carried

Beats Rhymes & Life
the Love Movement
Welcome to Detroit
Amplified
Electric Circus

People were really shytting on these albums. A friend of mine gave me Amplified(it's the copy I have today). He bought it expecting some Tribe shyt and said it was trash. Most of these artists that praise him wouldn't cut him a check to produce on their albums while he was alive. shyt doesn't make any sense. Dilla was around in that Swizz, DJ Shok, Dame Grease, Neptunes, keyboard-era of beats rappers were rhyming over in the late 90s to early 2000s. He's not on any Nas albums or a lot of other popular sellers at the time. shyt, he never did a beat on a fukking Eminem or D12 album and Proof/ Kon Artis were his boys. wtf!! He did do a beat for Royce on the Lyricist lounge 2 album

The thing about drill is that in 2022 it's probably more non-blacks that produce the beats or at least a large chunk of the producers now are non-black. Including African drill.

In general just real tired of having these producers like WondaGurl or Metro innovate a sound for it to get watered down and duplicated by everyone else, get watered down, then leave a bunch of damage in the communities all because everyone else is trying to clout chase.

. The west had their gfunk and others. The east had a variety, but we knew.. Each coast had their slang. Now with artists coming out, I don't know where the fukk these guys are from until they state it because everyone sounds alike.

I agree. I don't think the south killed hip hop, the lack of a regional sound is what killed hip hop. I love wresting. I was watching wrestling in the early 80s before I got into hip hop in 1984. There were a LOT of different wrestling federation and territories as Jim Cornette constantly explains on his podcast. He always says that when Vince Mcmahan killed the territory, that hurt wrestling. I say the same thing about hip hop. Back in the day, you knew the east coast sound, southern sound, west coast, midwest, etc.. Regions didn't have 1 sound because the south had bass, bounce, and others. The west had their gfunk and others. The east had a variety, but we knew.. Each coast had their slang. Now with artists coming out, I don't know where the fukk these guys are from until they state it because everyone sounds alike.
I feel that started with everyone wanting that NEPTUNES sound.

I don't think it really qualifies as a narrative, but I feel like 2001 gets a lot more love than The Chronic does.

Now don't get me wrong, 2001 is a dope album. Retardedly dope.

But compared to the original Chronic? Nah. The Chronic was Dre's true solo introduction to the world... the entire landscape of hip-hop changed after it dropped! HOW MANY songs/albums came out after it that featured that high, whiny Moog whistling synthesizer? I rest my case. AND it introduced the LEGEND Snoop (well, you could argue Deep Cover did that, I guess) as well as the Death Row crew: Kurupt, Daz, RBX, Lady Of Rage.

As good as 2001 is, it had tracks like Let's Get High, Light Speed, Bang Bang. Yuck. :scust:

The Chronic was a 10/10 classic. Not a single bad track. Great skits, genre-changing beats, 100% analog production.

Deeez Nuuuts and Lil' Ghetto Boy ALONE make it a certified classic. Just listen to the instrumentals:

It doesn't get any better than that. Maybe I'm just an old head and out of touch. You could be right.

But you're not.

:blessed:

That high pitch whine solo from MC Breed-Aint no Future in yo Frontin in 1991:patrice:

But ...ahh you said DRE just popularized it...so nvm hah.

Offline brehs either fukk with him heavy or not all.

2)Cole and Kendrick being top 3 of this current generation.

From coast to coast Future gets more bump in the streets and suburbs than BOTH.

Unfortunately the "streets" don't really dictate what's hot anymore :francis:

The king with 2 albums? how? So are we calling someone the greatest based on potential? None of us here killed him so we shouldn't have to say he is the best ever because he didn't reach his potential..
