Providing clean water, a basic necessity we all take advantage of, to third world communities. Some people have to walk for over 2 hours just to get water that isn't even potable. I believe everyone should have access to clean water. This is a cause I'm really passionate about.
Each year, I ask that instead of getting me birthday presents, my friends and family donate to a charity of my choice. This year, I'm supporting a local charity that places public access defibrillators and also donates units to families with children who have heart disease so they can lead a more normal life. We do the PR for them and as a result, I have been in contact with a few of the people whose lives have been saved thanks to one of the defibrillators this charity has placed...and it's such an amazing feeling to know someone has had a second chance at life.
Anyway, back to the topic. Last year, we helped raised money for a charity called Charity Water. They have a team of people, including structural engineers and volunteers, who build well infrastructure to provide clean water to various communities around the world. They even email you GPS coordinates to the exact location where the well your money has helped build will be located (if you ever want to visit, you know where it is and can see it once it has been erected. Our campaign is helping to fund one in Cambodia). One of my aims is to help create awareness for them as much as possible, so please check out their website...they do amazing work and I know the person who runs the digital media department...he has helped them gain lots of recognition over the years.
If you're wondering what to do for your birthday this year, you might want to consider pledging your birthday and asking your friends and family to support your campaign:
