Ì don't get why people are complaining about this

The asg is a meaningless game where the players can just have fun and chill with other players in the league

You want them to risk injury for a game that doesn't matter?

The nba has a lot of issues right now but players joking around in the all star game isn't one of them
I'm so fukking tired of this excuse
Since when does at least a half ass effort = injury
We had years and years of all star games with players putting in a solid effort and I have never heard of anyone sustaining an injury in one

It's funny about those summer runs because if a dude gets cooked there then they blur them out. I think Siakam got put on a poster once and he wouldn't clear it. So you know these guys don't want to get laughed out the gym if they get burnt.

I don't think anyone is expecting a game 7 of the NBA finals level effort

But I think people just wanna see them actually give a damn lol

Past players cared about giving the fans a show, even if it was just 10/15 minutes of competitive basketball. Launching open 3 and dunking with an empty lane is not entertaining

Don't know why folks blame Silver...at the end of the day the blame largely rest on the players and ESPN commentators like Stephen A & Skip who pushed the "regular season doesn't matter" & "RINGZ" culture. Where Silver can step up is force ESPN to get more respectable & nuanced takes...that could create a domino effect.

Players also got to realize that the regular season is where the majority of the money is made. Mike made his name during the regular season and then created the Jordan brand at the dunk contests.

and the playoffs too

jordan brand wouldn't be this big if jordan wasnt winning championships

Yea people that say this is the reason why there is no change. We just let these dudes give out half asses excuses and we are supposed to accept it.

These current guys are lazy

Think about injecting a Prime KG into this game and how much that alone changes the dynamic from an intense, competitive perspective.

Even in a game with looser defense you can tell it's still highly competitive the whole way and people were trying to contest shots and indivual effort.

KG getting and 1's yelling at the crowd, hustling for putbacks, boxing out, going out his way not to get outdone by Duncan or Dirk, clapping after he gets buckets he fought for, etc.

Yea I know that's part of it but Jordan took the regular season and everything he competed in seriously. Him balling out in the regular season is where most people got to see him and his flashy game first and then the iconic images of his slam dunk contests create a household name. The playoff success came after all that.

These current players want to be like that, then they can't cheat the process and further denigrate the regular season and the ASW. That's where the majority of the games are played, and will offer more chances for fans around the world to see you. If all the players only care about their brand, I'd think being as good as you can be whenever your playing would be key, but these guys have seemingly lost the plot.

Both teams getting back on D and not fouling

Stephen A had a good idea for the slam dunk contest.

Let the players sponsor a dunker off the street and offer like a million to the winner.

The best dunkers arent in the NBA anyway, might be a way to revitalize the event and give some unknown guys an opportunity at the same time.

That has the potential to make sure you never wanna watch a dunk again. Dunks for many people are about the messenger, not the message, so even if some 6'3'' gym rat does something crazy, we'd rather it be Ja.

Beyond that Saturday night, nobody will continue to care about them except for a few fools who think a crazy dunk on the third or fourth try warrants a 10 day deal.

Nothing against you but that’s stupid. It’s called the NBA Dunk Contest. Not the random nikka (or cac) off YouTube Dunk Contest

When I say opportunity I mean MONEY.

It's alotta guys on the street who can do some crazy dunks but don't belong in the league....maybe we should focus the dunk contest on them since the pros obviously don't fukk with it anymore

Either that or get rid of it

You can't call it an NBA dunk contest when NBA players don't compete in it. Turn it into an opportunity to earn life changing money for guys who can actually dunk.

If u REALLY open this up to the streets for real money ain't no cac winning this shyt. It'd be real competition, I think it could work. I'd watch that over this bullshyt we got now, at least that white boy wanted to compete
