I thought the return was poor. I also seriously doubt Poles passed on significantly better offers to make the Pittsburgh landing happen. Prob marginal upgrades. It seems like posturing in the media

My point was Poles was getting raked over the coals all week for not doing “right” by Justin. It was weird. Poles didn’t do himself favors by saying he wanted to land Fields somewhere before FA though, so he opened himself to the narrative

JJ McCarthy has a lot of "NFL throws" on his tape. I was actually surprised at how good some of his route tree throws were. Very good anticipatory throws in his film, but when you watch a full game, he struggles to get through a game and you can tell he's limited.

I'll say this, if the Bears pass on a QB in the 1st round and we end up with JJ MCCarthy in the 3rd or 4th, I wouldn't be upset. He's a game manager that makes some great anticipatory throws. THE BALL IS OUT ON TIME!!! This is something most College QBs are NOT doing. This translates to the NFL, great mechanics, great base, can throw through the Linebacker buzzing. He played in a pro style offense and his placement is nice. I love his deep digs and deep in throws. His upside isn't great but I think he can be an NFL starter with development time. His arm doesn't wow you and he doesn't make big throws down the field on the outside enough.

Improving on offense across the board, getting the franchise once in a generation QB, and only improving by a game or two would be a disappointing season, and an easy way for Flus to get fired. I think even Poles might be on a short leash unless Caleb plays great. If one of these other QBs has a Stroud like season and Caleb looks ordinary in “the best situation for a #1 pick,” his job ain’t gonna be safe.
