I like the hire, the work he did with Geno Smith speaks for itself. I still need the Bears to draft a QB at no. 1, let him sit a few years if need be but we need to be drafting a big time passing QB at no. 1 this year.
Whatā€™s the point of drafting a QB at #1 overall if youā€™re gonna sit him for a FEW years?

Yeah I don't see how the bears pass on Caleb :hubie:

they arent, I look at it as a foregone conclusion - we all like Justin, but this is the opportunity and the quality of QB we have been waiting for for generations now as Bears fans

Im very curious the options that will be available at #9

To develop him. Patrick Mahomes didn't play much his rookie year, Rodgers and Love didn't either
Neither were the #1 overall pick. If youā€™re the #1 overall pick, youā€™re expected to be a day one starter. Also, Mahomes, Rodgers and Love got drafted to playoff teams, so they could afford to sit them (and Mahomes only sat one year). The Bears were a 3 bad finishes from being a playoff team but they ultimately finished 7-10. If youā€™re gonna replace Fields with a QB at #1, he BETTER be ready to light it up on day one.

Is it about draft position or making sure your QB of the future is successful?
We still have Fields under contract, let him play, see if we can make the playoffs with him. Get his trade value up. If not, bring Caleb in late in the season to get his era started

It would be different if Fields was like a 10 year veteran. Heā€™s only two years older than Williams. He wants to be great himself and have a future in the league. Why would he want to be in a situation where no matter how well he plays, heā€™s gonna get traded and groom his replacement? On Williams side, if heā€™s the #1 pick, why would he want to go to a situation where heā€™s not starting on day one, especially when heā€™s the ā€œbest prospect since ever?ā€ Michael Vick was the last QB who sat for a year. If you get drafted number one at QB, youā€˜re expected to play right away. If heā€™s not ready, why do you even draft a QB when youā€™re basically on the cusp of being a playoff team? Heā€™s supposed to be better than Fields on day one, so if you draft him and trade Fields, they need to make the playoffs, or at LEAST be above .500.

Drafting Caleb and starting him day one is the right move for multiple reasons. The main reason drafted QBs sit for a period of time is to learn from a veteran that already has the best chance of leading the team to the best possible record. The Bears donā€™t have a vet, and I canā€™t see them signing a vet like they did with Mike Glennon when Justin was drafted. That was a huge waste of time and money. Having Justin and Caleb on the same team wouldnā€™t be good either. Theyā€™re going to trade Justin before the draft or on draft day. If Justin starts, and Caleb is on the bench, the minute Justin has a bad game or a bad throw, fans will be calling for Caleb. That would be a huge distraction and cause a divided locker room.
