According to the Rockets, Yao measured 7-5.75 without shoes his second season (up from 7-5 even the prior season). Though in that tweet Shaq said Yao claimed he was "7-4"... either Yao was joking or maybe he was being honest and the Rockets blurred the lines of in-shoes and out of shoes measurements for marketing/hype reasons.

Either way, according to draftexpress, Shaq measured 7-0 without shoes, and according to self admission on Howard Stern Shaq admitted he was more precisely 6-11.5 without shoes.

So yeah, bout half a foot difference or nearly so in their height. That's a lot.

Nah, @dantheman9758 is saying Bill Russell is taller than he let on, they listed him at 6'9", but that was his measurement without shoes. In todays NBA Bill would be listed at his in shoes height which would probably be 6'11".


That picture he posted is a funky angle though -

Standing straight up Bill would look like Mehmet and Amare next to Yao.
