Literally almost every African American is mixed. You would be hard pressed to find an African American that is purely African. You would literally have to go to Georgia and South Carolina to find any significant number of unmixed African Americans. The fact of the business is we are all still African.

and that there isn't a direct correlation between the two

Two people can have similar genotypes and different phenotypes and vice versa
