Then again if they didnt' reach their potential what would be the point? If Knight, Monroe, and most importantly Drummond all reach their potential or close to it you have an excellent nucleus that would just need the right role players.

I understand that. My point is that you already have 3 lottery picks on the roster. They should be enough to build around if they play to their potential. Also there is a salary cap and and much more punitive luxury tax on the horizon. A fourth lottery pick=a fourth guy who could someday demand a max salary.

Not sure how much more simple I can make this. The whole point of drafting a guy in the lottery is because you expect/hope that he will become a impact player/franchise guy. That impact manifests it's self in playoff berths and success. If you keep ending up in the lottery then clearly those guys aren't panning out. If Knight, Monroe, Drummond play up to their potential there is no way this team misses the playoffs. Rooting for the Pistons to miss the playoffs is the same as rooting for them to either stand pat or regress.

Having a bunch of lottery picks has never made a team a contender. The Bobcats are a great example of this. It's all about having the RIGHT lottery picks. If this squad misses the playoffs and Knight, Monroe, and Drummond are all healthy then we may not have the RIGHT lottery picks.

We have seen plenty of teams end up in the lottery, year after year and never go anywhere. You look at the teams that have built through the draft and they all follow a similar trajectory. Lottery for a couple years. 8th seed. Contender the next season. I am looking fo the Pistons to follow a similar trajectory not just keep stockpiling talent and becoming the new Clippers.
