Even then Its still a slippery slope, nobody has the history the black race has on this earth so its not even a simple thing of just picking a name and running with it, especially not understanding the culture associated with it, thats why I never really frowned on AAs "making up" names within reason. People will clown someone for having a "ghetto" name and not a "good" european name, when imo it is a more noble act to see someone wanting to create their own legacy, but the argument about "ghetto names" is they often have no meaning, and were made because they "sounded cool".
Its not thoPersonally, I think AAVE should be its own language.

Intelligibility does not equal separate languageIt is. You or any cac wouldn't understand a AA from SW Atlanta speaking the local lingo.
Personally, I think AAVE should be its own language.
Intelligibility does not equal separate language
Prove itIt isn't intelligible to me or anyone who grew up speaking it. Its a language.
Slang does not equal separate languageSocial networks, and Blacks in general being an accepting people when it comes to anyone who isnt black prevents this though. Back in the day it would take 5-10 yrs for lingo and terms to reach mass america, now all non blacks do is hang around black twitter and look at IG,youtube, etc and pick up on stuff much faster.
Slang does not equal separate language
Those two features arent enough to determine a language vs a dialect or slangI'm not a linguist but if people can communicate in a code you can't understand then its a language.
Its not just slang but syntax and annunciation.
You are defining Language based on what Europeans classify it as, the same way Europeans say African tribes only had "dialects" and not languages. Believe what you want though.Slang does not equal separate language
What is the African definition of language thenYou are defining Language based on what Europeans classify it as, the same way Europeans say African tribes only had "dialects" and not languages. Believe what you want though.
