I endorse changing our names, just not sure about the traditional African route. Africa is our distant cousin not our brother.

I lean more toward hybrid names, perhaps 5% based names.

Me and my mother been chopping it up about this for a good year , and we're definitely boutta do that . shyt feels crazy dwelling these streets with a name provided to you from slavery , how the fukk the vast majority of nikkas walking around with an European last name smh shyt is evidence that we have damn near zero sense of identity. We haven't come to a conclusion what we want to change it to yet though but we def in the process of doing so . This thought ever come through ya heads before ?
Yes! I am named after my father so when he passes before me so I hope, I'll change it. I know what I want to change it to, too. It's a word.

Bantu names in Kikuyu are Swahili and are a gumbo of Indian, Arabic and Native African languages.

My girl has a Swahili last name and it is seen in both Africa and India. This is why you have to be careful with just picking any name.

My name is of proto-Bantu origin (I speak Lingala, Swahili, and a little Kituba). The word is the same in those languages Kikuyu, Xitsonga, Zulu, etc. etc. etc.

Because of a name mixup on a birth certificate done by my ancestors due to their illiteracy, I have a pretty unique/non european last name. I'm pretty proud of it

I have thought about changing my name to a West African one over the years and more so recently.
