They tried to leverage the Xbox One as a multimedia device and it didn't work out. Their goal wasn't to win the console war. After Mattrick left Phil Spencer refocused the Xbox back to gaming.

Kind of an overstatement. The console till this day has been abysmal when it comes to exclusive gaming content. I still enjoy my One X cause of Gamepass and the higher res graphics but as a PC gamer with a 2080TI and still chooses to game from 1440p to 1800p. 4K Resolution isn’t my biggest concern. Performance and graphic fidelity is. If we talking from a technical standpoint.
You can't in the middle of things instantly pop up a bunch of exclusive content that was never in development to begin with.
Also there's been a clear second shift in Microsoft's game studios over the last couple years. At first Microsoft was all about live service type multi-player games but they as of late have been acquiring a bunch of studios that don't focus on that.
I've looked at everything they've done as of late and I love almost all of it. This new generation will be their do-over as far as I'm concerned. A chance to get things right from the very beginning. Since Spencer is the one in charge as they develop and launch this console I'm willing to see what he can do.
I think most of the people criticizing Microsoft have a clear bias against them at this point. It's hard to list all their latest acts and not like what's going on.

I'll probably wait until the mid gen refresh to pick up a PS5, depending on how launch looks. Already going to buy late gen games like Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 only, shyt I'm waiting on some 3rd party games for next gen Red Dead 2.

It ain’t about bias to me. It’s been a bunch of broken promises when it comes to them. But I do respect a lot of stuff they do as well. I feel like Sony should adopt some of the shyt they do. But none of these corporations are perfect which is why I hold no loyalty to either one.

That's from a writer at Digital Foundry, the same guys who stay bigging up MSFT. This isn't some "forum myth" or "sony stan". This is coherent, logical points that can't be dismissed as fanboy talk as this is a tech guy. He's an expert in this field.
It'd be like getting a 5 on 5 pickup basketball game but the other team decides they want to include children in it so now everybody can play but the players gotta hold back what they really can do.
This is a very serious matter. Buy a $500 console to experience Xbox One(2013) games in better fidelity or buy a PS5 to enjoy tailor made games meant to showcase all the features of the console.

I'm willing to give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt and let the games come out first.
Maybe on 3rd party or AA shyt, but I seriously doubt that the big hitters like Halo won't show out on the Series X.
I was just about to post this!!! It's crazy that people don't understand how Microsoft is holding the industry back by including Xbox one as the baseline for games. The cpu in those systems were literally designed for phones and has been the reason why games were doing less than 60fps and other limitations like NPCs on screen
