Where are you finding a $250 PS4 Slim with a game? Cheapest new bundle is $299 for COD BLOPS 3(OG) or UC4(slim).
OG PS4 will be $250 or less this year.

Budget conscious consumers didn't make a difference when the XB1's price was slashed all last year and before. I remember all the spins y'all were coming up with talking about the PS4 was only selling because it was $399 but then the XB1 was $399 and less at times and was still being outsold. :mjlol:
Again accept for the first year both have been pretty equal in price. And in America they are within a million of each other all time sales.

If the price/value advantage stays with Xbox, they will continue to win NPD

Nothing is guaranteed. The PS2 crushed everything and the 360 came in and basically won most of the generation until the PS3 finally took over in the end in worldwide sales.
This ignores why that happened. The Xbox 360 came out a year before the PS3 and by the time the PS3 released it had built a sizable lead in the US. To this day I'm fairly certain the PS3 never caught up to the 360 in the US and it only caught up and passed the 360 overall because of worldwide sales. Worldwide the Xbox brand is nowhere near the PlayStation brand.

The PS3 had a prohibitively high cost in the beginning. Also the collapse of console gaming in Japan took a decent chunk of the sales Sony could have counted on to push them past the Xbox 360 sooner.

The main reason the 360 was on top of the PS3 for so long is because in the US they outsold them drastically. None of that stuff is happening here. Were we stand now Xbox sales are in the 20 or so million range and PS4 sales are past 40 million. Unless the PS4 literally stops selling units for several years they'll never make that difference up or even come close.

I read through this thread, and I can't help but laugh. GAF is such an echo chamber of insular perspectives on so many things, and the Pro has been one of them.

Where is the hype? In the mass market, apparently. This thing continues to gain great momentum in preorders, with a really, really solid build up already, it's going to do great at launch. There's a lot of positive energy around it from consumer perception, being able to acknowledge the idea of actually gaming at better performance and visuals is a really easy sell for the people looking to get the best gaming clarity.

How people seem to think this is somehow confusing, and being willfully obtuse on this subject, is just exasperating. Honestly. I understand the disappointment some of you have on the UHD player aspect, but it hasn't really had much of any real reflection for the people putting down preorders. My friend who works in the gamestop district nearby has told a very similar story, though I couldn't get any kind of actual numbers from him.

Guy who leaked the PS4 Pro said:
Our pre order numbers for the Pro are pretty ridiculous at the moment and most of the people pre ordering already own a PS4.
But listening to armchair experts on here nobody is pre-ordering this thing because nothing.

They not saying it won't sell but that it won't outsell Xbox this holiday seasons because of the bundles cheap prices and Black Friday Christmas.

I don't even know what Sony expected shipment is this holiday season?

We've got Osiris, the original leaker, saying that their level of preorders are faintly ridiculous, we've got myself acknowledging very, very positive preorder numbers that grow with increasing positive reaction from consumers as time has gone by, Amazon shows constant positive tracking from it - Jim Ryan from Sony was quoted as saying pleasantly surprised by the reaction and preorders in the UK interviews, with expectations of having plenty of inventory to try and meet the demand for the stock.

I don't know what else can be done to really provide actual insight into how it is doing at this point, other than it is going to sell really well this holiday season. It looks like it is frankly going to kill it, if the numbers I'm seeing, and my friend at GS is telling me he's seeing as well. That's what I mean by GAF being an echo chamber, is that even when we provide the insight into very positive consumer response, the somewhat tepid response on here in varying degrees echoes around and dampens the actual details.
:wow:

See above.

This forum is not definitely skewed towards anything historically. Last generation the 360 was dominant on GAF. Currently, as the PS4 has been far more successful on a worldwide scope, it has a larger overall presence on GAF. That's basically the extent of it. Also, Xbox has done a pretty poor job of fighting for consumer presence in worldwide markets, which doesn't help things on an international forum, either.
Artificial hype is just that, artificial. The response we're seeing in store is generally just straight interest and enthusiasm for what it can offer. I'm looking forward to benefiting for both my standard games and VR games. It'll be great to have the advantages across the board. It's my primary gaming platform, so it is a no brainer for me, which is a common sentiment I see in a lot of the consumers I see putting down preorders.
To both of you talking about the UHD part of it - I own a 4K TV, and the UHD player has no impact on me at all. That's entirely subjective, right? Sure. But it also carries into the store. The UHD section of our media aisles is some of the most neglected I can think of. Only some of the accessories in appliances get less traffic.

Physical media for movies has much less relevance than you'd think from trawling threads like these - especially for the Pro. The consumers we're seeing looking to buy this have been primarily interested in the enhancements for the gaming aspect, and buying movies rarely comes into conversation.
:wow: These armchair experts looking funny in the light
