#XBOXTakeover
We live in AmericaSony has at this point sold an estimated two times the number of Xbox Ones sold. The positions are set. Them outselling Sony a couple months in the US isn't gonna make up the battering they took for years worldwide.
Microsoft was getting outsold so bad they quit putting out sales numbers. Even as bad as the Wii U sold Nintendo still continued to put out unit sales. We live in America
Microsoft is an American company
NPD is about American sales.
"Worldwide" is irrelevant here
theres no reason to emphasize hardware sales anymore as software and services is where the profit is. As far as investors are concerned the number of active and paying users is more important than the hardware sales numbers.Microsoft was getting outsold so bad they quit putting out sales numbers. No one said anything will "change" both consoles are selling better than their predecessors. Console gaming is very healthy. Everyone wins. This means next to nothing in the grand scheme of things. It changes nothing.
Except active monthly users is a stat that is very deceptive because it lumps Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC users all together and mixes silver and gold users. Also any of those users that logs on once in the last 30 days is counted.theres no reason to emphasize hardware sales anymore as software and services is where the profit is. The only people this effects are console warriors who wann Stan/make excuses for the numbers.
Active users directly correlates with money spending.Except active monthly users is a stat that is very deceptive because it lumps Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC users all together and mixes silver and gold users. Also any of those users that logs on once in the last 30 days is counted.
It's a padded stat and it's a way for them to not have to put out numbers quarterly that say our chief competitor has still doubled our sales.
It's actually worse than when Sony used to bundle PS3 and PS2 sales as well as PSP and Vita sales and call it the PlayStation family sales to hid their lagging sales numbers.
Except that included in the active user numebr are people who don't spend anything. In fact they may very well be approaching the majority. Xbox Live Silver members and PC users who use the service for free and don't have to buy anything. Why are they included in active users? Because if gives out a higher more respectable number.Active users directly correlates with money spending.
No it's because it's an industry standard practice. In fact in most industries where businesses sell products to consumers they don't go out of their way to mask the end user sales numbers unless there's some unfavorable reason to.Active users directly correlates with money spending.
PlayStation emphasizes hardware numbers because that's what they are doing better at right now, but still the more important numbers to investors are hardware and software sales. It sounds good to say "we sold more consoles" but if those users aren't buying games/services then they are worthless.

If it was about spending money Microsoft could filter that number down to users who have made a purchase in the last 30 days instead of who turned on an internet connected device. There's a reason they don't do that.

Take Apple for example. When iPhone sales were making history the first week they put the numbers out. Now that iPhone sales are in the decline they won't put those numbers out anymore for the simple fact that comparisons will be made to the older better numbers and the result will be unfavorable.
Nobody was born yesterday here. Microsoft's switch to "monthly active users" isn't to tout people buying stuff. If it was we all know they know how many of those MAU buys stuff on their platform. They could put those numbers out like I said but they choose not to.
It should also be said that Sony announced the PS4 Pro release date and price. Why then would people go out and buy the regular PS4 when they could wait a few months and buy the Pro version for slightly more? There's a very logical reason for PS4 sales to drop several months before a known product refresh.
This. I don't get why some folks make it hard to put 2+2 together. It should also be said that Sony announced the PS4 Pro release date and price. The whole MAU switch is a giant excuse and corporate spin. They just wanted to put out a higher number because Sony was cruising them. You might parrot their spin but everybody else knows why they did it and it wasn't for the purpose of showing how many users spend money on their platform because their criteria for MAU purposely includes users who don't spend a dime and is very loose.Like I said it only matters to those of you who want to make excuses

The holiday sales will kick in soon and the Pro will be released and we'll be back to business as usual.
Be furious brehs
He's in here furiously trying to downplay something he said "doesn't matter"

Sounds like it matters to him and the rest of you stans.
If Sony had won y'all would have made your circle jerk thread and proclaimed the PS Slim was better than the One S. But since it didn't go that way y'all wanna pretend Sony didn't release new hardware and run with an excuse about a future release.
Ima just sit here and watch and come back to laugh if Microsoft wins next month too
These guys are delusional. Even the PS4 Pro isn't flying off with the preorders so far. It's in stock to ship on release day at best buy, gamestop and Amazon. All the people saying it's meaningless blah blah. No,it isn't.
Look THIS Gen is over has been for a long time.
But Microsoft is riding a good wave right now and Sony isn't.
At the end of the last Gen Sony rode that good wave they had at the end of the Gen into momentum for this Gen.
Microsoft could very well do the same if they play their cards right.
This shyt does have some significance.
It's no coincidence that Sony has been looking dumb lately and suddenly Microsoft suddenly starts selling more in this region.
