Take-Two's Zelnick criticizes key companies taking E3 for granted
[Disclaimer: GamesIndustry.biz was partnered with E3 and parent company ReedPop was organising this year's event.] Take…www.gamesindustry.biz
In an interview on the latest episode of the VGC Podcast, Keighley was asked how he felt about his reputation in some corners of the internet as "the E3 killer".
"I think E3 sort of killed itself in a way," Keighley replied. "I understand why people say [SGF killed E3], but I think if anything, we created Summer Game Fest, and I built Summer Game Fest because I saw the wheels falling off the wagon of E3.
"As someone who loves that time of year… for two decades, E3 was part of my life since I was a 15-year-old kid. [From] the first E3 in 1995, I went to every show. I loved it and it defined my summer."
He added: "It was so exciting to me, and it was heartbreaking to see that start to fall apart. I think they had a relevancy problem, and then they also had a participation problem over the final years.
"So yeah, I think the question is, if we didn't do Summer Game Fest what would happen? I think things would have just kind of really splintered apart this summer."
These are the facts
"As Caesar loved me, I weep for him; as he was fortunate, I rejoice at it; as he was valiant, I honour him: but, as he was ambitious, I slew him. "

Keighley on the other hand definitely had a hand in making sure E3 died and taking shots at it every chance he got while promoting SGF
Hopefully SGF suffers a similar fate
SGF is barely more than a few loosely connected streams that was piggybacking off E3 last I remembered. Either that or they rent out a hall and show off some trailers. Why would it suffer the same fate as E3 when E3 was way more than that?Nobody saying SGF killed E3

It's trash and if he was really a fan of E3 he would have tried to work with them instead of replacing them.

I hope it dies out completelySGF is barely more than a few loosely connected streams that was piggybacking off E3 last I remembered. Either that or they rent out a hall and show off some trailers. Why would it suffer the same fate as E3 when E3 was way more than that?
I hope it dies out completely
There's still going to be something in the middle of the year to set the stage for the next year. Even the companies that dropped out of E3 like EA still had stuff. I don't see why it couldn't be SGF.I hope it dies out completely
Its like stabbing someone with a terminal illness, it doesn’t make a difference. Like he said, the format for E3 was long dead.
Considering the fact that the game awards is bigger than its ever been, i doubt it. Geoff is basically the gatekeeper of larger gaming events at this point
Instead of being bitter and upset about Keighly taking over you should be happy someone cared enough to keep it going. Otherwise there would be nothing in its place
