These are the facts

In an interview on the latest episode of the VGC Podcast, Keighley was asked how he felt about his reputation in some corners of the internet as "the E3 killer".

"I think E3 sort of killed itself in a way," Keighley replied. "I understand why people say [SGF killed E3], but I think if anything, we created Summer Game Fest, and I built Summer Game Fest because I saw the wheels falling off the wagon of E3.

"As someone who loves that time of year… for two decades, E3 was part of my life since I was a 15-year-old kid. [From] the first E3 in 1995, I went to every show. I loved it and it defined my summer."

He added: "It was so exciting to me, and it was heartbreaking to see that start to fall apart. I think they had a relevancy problem, and then they also had a participation problem over the final years.

"So yeah, I think the question is, if we didn't do Summer Game Fest what would happen? I think things would have just kind of really splintered apart this summer."

Crazy how big E3 used to be to turning out this way is like the fall of toys r us. I do wish more companies would through more in person conferences of their own. I went to the one they had in Vegas in 2014 and that was good time minus some of the stench off some people :lolbron:

"As Caesar loved me, I weep for him; as he was fortunate, I rejoice at it; as he was valiant, I honour him: but, as he was ambitious, I slew him. "

Nobody saying SGF killed E3

:mjlol:

Keighley on the other hand definitely had a hand in making sure E3 died and taking shots at it every chance he got while promoting SGF

Hopefully SGF suffers a similar fate :manny:

It's trash and if he was really a fan of E3 he would have tried to work with them instead of replacing them.

I don' think anyone ever said Summer Game Fest killed E3 so I'm not sure what he's talking about. E3 was killed by the evolution of technology like streaming and YouTube. They can fly a few influencers out to play a early build of a game then have them go on YouTube and advertise it to the masses. Or they can setup an online demo for the influencers to play at home and do so. In the face of that why spend millions on an E3 presence when the return on investment is better?

Its like stabbing someone with a terminal illness, it doesn’t make a difference. Like he said, the format for E3 was long dead.

Hopefully SGF suffers a similar fate :manny:

Considering the fact that the game awards is bigger than its ever been, i doubt it. Geoff is basically the gatekeeper of larger gaming events at this point

Instead of being bitter and upset about Keighly taking over you should be happy someone cared enough to keep it going. Otherwise there would be nothing in its place

SGF is barely more than a few loosely connected streams that was piggybacking off E3 last I remembered. Either that or they rent out a hall and show off some trailers. Why would it suffer the same fate as E3 when E3 was way more than that?

There's still going to be something in the middle of the year to set the stage for the next year. Even the companies that dropped out of E3 like EA still had stuff. I don't see why it couldn't be SGF.

I don't like haters that front like they care about the bigger picture when in reality everything they do is in self interest.

Therefore Geoff is on my list, on top of that he helped kill what was one of my favorite time of the years for decades now.
