the only way Nintendo and Sony would allow it is if they eat off of it. And it would be for first party games of course since many of the 3rd party joints are already on PS essential/plus/premium. Nintendo may allow more games in their version of Gamepass.

Being on Nintendo/Playstation has to be the endgame, because the current state is just flat out not working.

At that point you’d be increasing the overhead to the point is it even worth it? Just let those companies sell their own games on that platform instead of being a middle man just to pay more.

It's crazy because they already had the all incentive and then Microsoft went and got rid of the old app and came up with this . All they had to do was add the store and Gamepass to the old app.

They don't even have games on the Xbox PC Store. It make zero sense that Street Fighter 6, Cyberpunk, etc are all on console Xbox and Steam but NOT on Xbox PC Store. I get that Microsoft is trying to push Gamepass but games that are not on Gamepass should be available for purchases. The old Xbox app was straight + most of my friends are on XBL, I was ready to leave Steam and purchase all future PC games from Microsoft. I was also very open to get a PC Gamepass subscription too... But then that new app came out.

Yeah, I don't understand why they haven't unified the store yet. I am sure some people would purchase games on the Microsoft store over Steam if the store wasn't trash and purchases carry over to PC. With the new trend of windows handheld there would be some gamers that would purchase from their store because they can play on their xbox and Windows handheld. I have no clue what they're doing with their store, but if they improved it and unified purchases then they can improve their market share. I know most won't leave Steam, but they could get a decent amount of people to make purchases through windows rather than steam.

Microsoft gave up about 20 million customers to Sony from the Xbox One generation to now. They can’t even get those customers back. The reality is in this business if you don’t have exclusive games people can’t get anywhere else that are popular customers just don’t have a reason to pick your hardware over Sony’s.

Some new player is going to enter this business with AAA cycles taking 4-5 years with none of those exclusives starting from scratch? Too difficult. They’d have to money hat a bunch of titles. Btw nobody new right now that we know of is doing R&D on making a home console. Nobody we know of is having studios develop games for them. Apple doesn’t even make games now.

There is just nobody else. Microsoft is it and if they lose their appetite nobody is looking to or will be in a position to replace them any time soon and in that gap Sony would just get stronger. I think right now Sony is borderline insurmountable. If they got 60% of Xbox gamers to convert with Microsoft leaving it would be impossible to even compete.

It would be like when Google thought they could beat Facebook with Google+ and failed. At that point the only company that could beat Facebook head on was Facebook. People compare TikTok but that’s a video platform not the same type of social network Facebook is.

As more and more 3rd party games aren't trapped under the PS umbrella and the cost of AAA games get sky high we're starting to see the actual lack of games and flaws in them leaning into this method.

also, sony would never price a console at 1200 dollars because they see PC as a direct competitor. Its why pro consoles exists and why they don’t do day 1 releases on it

Both nintendo and PC would greatly eat into their marketshare if they ever did this.

This ain't even true, wii u basically didn't sell at all, the PS4 caught its stride in 2017 before that this forum wasn't even in here debating over games, it was mainly about resolution and the power of systems plus their features
