Apple is not going to step into the console gaming market. They make too much money on mobile gaming to bother with it. Hell they’re trying to put high production games on iPhone now.

If Microsoft exits Sony will gobble those customers up and even if another company wanted to enter the space they’d be at a weaker position than Microsoft is at right now and it would be much more difficult to change that.

You gotta remember when Sony entered the home console market the entire industry for the most part got behind them and pushed them. For a new player that won’t be the case. No new player is entering console gaming and even coming close to completing with Sony.
Yeah, theoretically they're the only company I can see entering, but like you mentioned why would they? I think they're fine with mobile and creating a marketplace there. With smartphones getting stronger every year they could create a store that can provide a AAA mobile experience.

The entry into this market being difficult is why people shouldn't want Microsoft to exit because even at a weaker position they can still check Sony on certain things

You really want Sony to have an eternal monopoly on consoles? :why:

Sony stans believe that they are entitled to EVERYTHING while justifying jacking up prices forever. They want to have a $1200 console and have no public pushback.
Fanboy logic isn’t actually logical. It’s the same sort of logic poor white red state republicans use. They cheer on politicians and policies that negatively impact them because “own the libs” by any means necessary. The end result doesn’t matter as long as their side wins.

These fans don’t look at something like PlayStation Extra and see they actually benefited from Sony responding to Game Pass in some ways. They don’t look at how PSN as a response to Xbox Live benefited them. Trophies as a response to achievements. The list goes on. Having more than one opinion benefits the industry.

They want Sony to end up like Intel did with AMD. So many years of no competition when AMD came back to trying Intel got decimated.

No one wants to have a $1200 console, nor would Sony release one for anything remotely that price, even if they were sole high end console manufacturer, as that's PC pricing territory, which is one of the main reasons console gamers choose consoles over PCS is due to that price disparity. You seriously need to stop Geronimo jumping off the roof to those hyperbolic conclusion you keep conjuring up out of nonsensical nothingness, Duke. You been boasting that bullshyt for years.

Is this the wave now? Instead of talking about successful games and consoles we're talking about how much money a company makes from another company?
This been the wave for a minute, soon it'll be something even dumber, so cherish these moments

I'm a Nintendo Stan at heart, but Nintendo always needs competition to keep them on edge and have quality control. I never want Nintendo to have a monopoly in the console or handheld market, and even now mobile smartphone apps have games that made loads of $$$ and I believe that they are needed as well.

Sony stans, just want to control and have everything to themselves. So a future $1200 console without a peep of proper criticism is what they are striving for, if/when M$ gets out the gaming business. They cannot help themselves, and refuse to push anything but visuals and cinematic games.

Folks, wtf are you talking about. Let Sony release a 1200 console, many people won’t buy. Simple as that.

Sony doesn’t own all the software ip, games would continue to release on other platforms. As much as folks like to omit Nintendo from these conversations, you really think they wouldn’t release a console if they saw an opening?

Xbox doesn't even have enough exclusives to make that sort of deal appealing to be reality about it.
Honestly, I don't think there's any publisher except Nintendo that could sell their catalogue for $10/month to keep players sub. Even with Sony it might be a tough sell to pay $10/month for access to their games because a lot of their games are one and done. I don't even think EA would get many subs if they charged $10/motnh for day one sports titles because you're not going to have many madden players that also play fifa, nhl, and F1.

A gimped version of gamepass on PS5 isn't that appealing to playstation customers, but they would most likely like to purchase microsoft games.

TYRONE GA!
Not unless Microsoft wants to pay Sony the cut of whatever a game would have made selling on PlayStation on top of the deal they give the publisher for getting it on Game Pass.

that's what is probably gonna happen.

the only way Nintendo and Sony would allow it is if they eat off of it. And it would be for first party games of course since many of the 3rd party joints are already on PS essential/plus/premium. Nintendo may allow more games in their version of Gamepass.

Being on Nintendo/Playstation has to be the endgame, because the current state is just flat out not working.

That's the issue because they're not giving any incentives for PC gamers to use their store. From personal experience it's origins level of bad, and its behind GOG, Epic game store, and of course Steam. I have no clue why they can't create a proper launcher and store to get it working properly.

It's crazy because they already had the all incentive and then Microsoft went and got rid of the old app and came up with this 💩. All they had to do was add the store and Gamepass to the old app.

They don't even have games on the Xbox PC Store. It make zero sense that Street Fighter 6, Cyberpunk, etc are all on console Xbox and Steam but NOT on Xbox PC Store. I get that Microsoft is trying to push Gamepass but games that are not on Gamepass should be available for purchases. The old Xbox app was straight 🔥🔥🔥 + most of my friends are on XBL, I was ready to leave Steam and purchase all future PC games from Microsoft. I was also very open to get a PC Gamepass subscription too... But then that new app 🗑️ came out.

Microsoft gave up about 20 million customers to Sony from the Xbox One generation to now. They can’t even get those customers back. The reality is in this business if you don’t have exclusive games people can’t get anywhere else that are popular customers just don’t have a reason to pick your hardware over Sony’s.

Some new player is going to enter this business with AAA cycles taking 4-5 years with none of those exclusives starting from scratch? Too difficult. They’d have to money hat a bunch of titles. Btw nobody new right now that we know of is doing R&D on making a home console. Nobody we know of is having studios develop games for them. Apple doesn’t even make games now.

There is just nobody else. Microsoft is it and if they lose their appetite nobody is looking to or will be in a position to replace them any time soon and in that gap Sony would just get stronger. I think right now Sony is borderline insurmountable. If they got 60% of Xbox gamers to convert with Microsoft leaving it would be impossible to even compete.

It would be like when Google thought they could beat Facebook with Google+ and failed. At that point the only company that could beat Facebook head on was Facebook. People compare TikTok but that’s a video platform not the same type of social network Facebook is.
