7 was a complete dud. Gran Turismo made the decision to make a serious MMO with GT Sport at the same time 7 was a unlivable mess online with trolls.

This is just flatly incorrect. Sim Racing is the most popular it has ever been, and GT Sport is the biggest platform.

In reality, Gran Turismo has rendered Forza completely irrelevant in Gran Turismo's market. Horizon pivoted the series into the arcade market. Gran Turismo killed Motorsport. Horizon killed Need For Speed.

Let them live in their fantasy world where forza is bigger than gran turismo
