It's in the main canon. After their marriage in X-Men #30, Jean and Scott's minds get pulled into the far future by Rachel (who's now Mother Askani) where they raise Cable in other people's bodies (as Slym & Redd) for 12 years. It's contained in the Adventures of Cyclops & Phoenix mini-series.

Yeah, X-Men '97 is much more forgiving to Maddie than the comics, lol.

Jean is generally much more of a mother to Cable than Madelyne (comics-wise).

Great cameos! Magneto showing why he's an alpha level mutant. Looks like he freed Omega Red in the process though. Zemo, Doom, and some other mystery woman down with the N.W.O. I love it!
