Sadly, it won’t, and Haslem, the only remaining member of the Heat’s three NBA championship teams, said he won’t wear the title of last man standing “as a badge of honor.” “It’s bittersweet, obviously,” said Haslem, who signed a one-year, $4 million contract on Sunday during a flurry of signings the Heat made in the aftermath of Wade’s decision to head home and play for the Chicago Bulls. “You know it’s something to talk about when I’m done — I was the last one left,” Haslem continued. “But while I’m in right now, it’s still hard. It’s not going to be easy. Like I said, you kind of write the story a certain way. You hope it will end that way. We just always talked about finishing it together. It just didn’t work out that way.”

“Obviously, I wanted him to come back,” Haslem, 36, said. “But I just know personally it was a lot of things that he was feeling that I guess maybe he was just burying for a while, and it just came to a head at this particular summer, at this particular time. For whatever reason we — the organization — and him, we couldn’t get to an agreement. “In hindsight, I think back wondering if I should have pulled a Chris Paul, handcuffed him like [the Clippers] did DeAndre Jordan [after he agreed to a deal with the Mavericks in the summer of 2015] and made him change his mind.”

Haslem then referenced last summer’s free-agency controversy when center DeAndre Jordan agreed to sign a max deal with the Dallas Mavericks, but reneged after teammates Chris Paul and Blake Griffin convinced him to return to the Los Angeles Clippers. Haslem, 36, somberly joked that he should have considered a similar tactic to get Wade to come back to Miami. “In hindsight, I don’t know, I think I should have come in and pulled a Chris Paul and handcuffed him like they did DeAndre Jordan and made him change his mind,” Haslem said. “I don’t know if there was anything I could have done or should have done. But I felt like it could have been avoided. For whatever reason, it just wasn’t.”

“I’m just glad to be back,” said Haslem, the Heat’s career leader in rebounds. “For 13 years, I’ve been a part of this organization. I’ve always had my mind set on finishing it this way. Obviously, I never envisioned finishing it without my brother. It’s bittersweet, obviously.”

Jason Lieser: Udonis Haslem was in touch with Wade throughout FA process. “I wanted him to come back… There was a lot of things that he was feeling.”

Does anyone know what would happen to Bosh if his contract comes off the books in February, does he become a free agent?
NBA Salary Cap FAQ

It's some slick shyt...if bosh is medically waived or medically retired...free cap space immediately...but he can "proves docs wrong" and play for another team...salary will still count but we could reapply for the cap space again...read up

He can't retire actually..or his salary will count...he has to play fewer than 10 games this year...and a doctor approved by the league and NBAPA...has to say he can't medically continue his career....

Basically he can't retire...or we foot the bill...if he wants to play...but the heat won't let him . Than an Indy Doctor approved by NBAPA and the league..has to say he can't be medically cleared to play for his career because of said condition which can risk his life...bosh gets paid either fukking but the key is for the doc to say he can't play...the heat can roll him out this year (if he plays more than 10 games) ..if the clots come up..the heat can apply for the provision and process can begin but they'd have to wait a whole mother year....it's tricky...idk what's gonna go down

The contract is guaranteed..our options are to sit bosh and try the career ending illness provision so it's not on the books...or play him til we just trade him...maybe the clips would trade for him straight up for Blake...which I'm fine with...not to resign him...unless we have 2...but to have that money free for the summer
