Maybe not wack but that album had bunch of filler and Wu aint have the cohesiveness they did on they classics. And no Forever aint a classic solid record but

Black Shampoo
Maria
Dog shyt
Second Coming
Wu Revolution

You fukking wylin or got 100 Wu merch in your closet if you fukking with those tracks....:camby:and there a few others that while not as weak were just :ld:

Maria and Dog shyt are classics man. Maria's beat is incredible, Rza even played it at his Versus with Premier. And Dog shyt is classic ODB, always cracks me up.

Lyrically they were better, no denying it. Definitely some classic tracks on there but I've always been meh on it generally. I don't listen to it nearly as much as 36 chambers, not even close.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but honestly, Wu Forever is the more interesting than 36 Chambers IMO

36 Chambers is a masterpiece and a game changing album, but what makes Wu Forever better IMO, is RZA and the whole Clan being mastering their styles

It's like a more refined Wu

It's polished but still raw without comprising anything for their roots

But it's like they had mastered everything on Forever

RZA reached his peak as a producer (and yes, I know he didn't produced every beat, but he did produce the majority of the album)

The way he evolved with his sound is just unbelievable considering he has already produced several solo classic albums and a classic group album already

The whole clan sound seasoned and better on it. everybody on their was in their own element and space as an artist.

Forever > 36 for all the reasons you laid out basically. Understand why people say 36 is better, but once the greatness of Forever clicks, you understand.

Above the fray.
Smart to cash in on popularity and release a double album, but dudes are not keeping it a buck. Take 4-6 songs out, and it might have been one of the best hip hop albums of alltime.

The first round of solo albums were better than Forever. And those albums get more burn from general rap fans and even from Wu fans.

Somebody come in here and lie to my face that Forever is better than OB4CL.

That's what I thought.

It’s a good album but at the same time it was the first Wu album that to me didn’t have that feel. After this I remember I didn’t feel as compelled to run and cop every subsequent Wu release like I had up to that point

I hate wu-forever

I didn't like 80% of the production on this album

Most late 90s hip-hop production in general:scust:strings :scusthov:

lyrically its 9/10 tho if only they mad a cohesive project shyt sounds like a compilation

People wanted Wu-Forever to be liquid swords/ob4cl combined

Compared to the hype the retail album was almost MID Wu lost damn near the whole black community after this shyt

Even if you think it was dope it wasn't what people wanted/expected

WU was on top, shyt was clean TOO CLEAN, ZERO hunger, certain verses while dope sounded phoned in with no heart behind it like they was reading off a piece of paper and pasted together on a beat

it reminds me of modern RAP (thats not a complement)
it was ahead of its time in a lot of ways but I don't think thats a good thing

Hip-Hop hasn't gotten better Wu Forever was far removed from most of the reasons people liked WU in the first place

:mjlol: at this whole post. nikkas love making up they own shyt on here.

If they made it a single disc album of the best songs with all the fat trimmed out, it woulda been one of the GOATs.

People would be putting it neck and neck with 36 Chambers the same way they do it with ATLiens/Aquemini or Midnight Marauders/Low End Theory.

Life After Death was a missed opportunity too in the same way.

this is a tired take. It has been said about double albums since the first one.

while not concise, it (the album: wu tang forever) scores points for the ambition.

not to mention, with 9 members in the group, it’s almost the only fair way to drop an album. Double sized.

and finally, the album has been critically acclaimed since it dropped. Criticisms of duration are revisionist takes and weak arguments.

i was 14 when it dropped and knee deep into Hip Hop. Maybe not old enough to say this but I don’t remember none of that shyt he was talking about. Wu tang took over the WORLD with this album. I don’t remember any criticism that sounded like ole boy. nikkas thought RZA went to the future and came back.

it reminds me of college dropout vs late registration. I always look at LR like a fully realized version of college dropout. Like if Ye had those same resources and budget, he would’ve done that on the first album. That’s how I feel about forever vs 36.

I love these threads on The Coli. Somebody makes an appreciation thread about a highly regarded album and out comes the contrarians, dapfishers and trolls trying to shyt on the album.

Dude in here said Wu Forever is where Wu lost Black people :dead:
