Agreed he definitely leveled up. In hindsight tho...that shyt is so frustrating because that album SHOULD have launched the second wave of Wu dominance. Rae was rapping better than virtually everyone on the planet, GZA was on fire, U-God was spitting, Masta Killa was unstoppable....yet none of them got a great project from RZA in the immediate aftermath. If Rae had dropped some shyt over whatever the remaining beats were instead of Immobilarity it would completely change how he's viewed. Another classic GZA album could have happened. Masta Killa could have finally gotten his classic after the flood. Instead we got some Bobby Digital fukkery and shyt was looking weak for the Wu until Ghost saved the day.
I get what you are saying, but I still appreciate the second wave of solos. They did not match the first wave, but they were very underrated.
It is really mind blowing that the Wu released what amounted to an alternative hip-hop album with a 5+ minute long lead single consisting of 9 verses and no chorus (that ended up getting minimal radio play) and topped the charts anyway.
The Wu really seemed to be playing by their own rules, and it is a shame things fell apart quickly. But I think a lot of that has to do with the fickle nature of hip-hop fans.
