Agreed he definitely leveled up. In hindsight tho...that shyt is so frustrating because that album SHOULD have launched the second wave of Wu dominance. Rae was rapping better than virtually everyone on the planet, GZA was on fire, U-God was spitting, Masta Killa was unstoppable....yet none of them got a great project from RZA in the immediate aftermath. If Rae had dropped some shyt over whatever the remaining beats were instead of Immobilarity it would completely change how he's viewed. Another classic GZA album could have happened. Masta Killa could have finally gotten his classic after the flood. Instead we got some Bobby Digital fukkery and shyt was looking weak for the Wu until Ghost saved the day.

I get what you are saying, but I still appreciate the second wave of solos. They did not match the first wave, but they were very underrated.

It is really mind blowing that the Wu released what amounted to an alternative hip-hop album with a 5+ minute long lead single consisting of 9 verses and no chorus (that ended up getting minimal radio play) and topped the charts anyway.

The Wu really seemed to be playing by their own rules, and it is a shame things fell apart quickly. But I think a lot of that has to do with the fickle nature of hip-hop fans.

Yeah I remember U-God stood out on Forever even back in 97. He should have followed up immediately with a project after that. Decks performance also stood out to me.

I can't even identify a Top 5 for Forever. All those guys you listed killed it, but what about Meth? Even Cappa was killing it on "For Heaven's Sake" and "Heaterz."

The only one who was worse on Forever than on 36 Chambers was ODB.

lol maaaaannn

Cappa didn't kill a goddamn thing on Forever.
That's CAP!

That 'Winter Warz' energy died after '97 Mentality.

Dude was terrible.

This classic interview when he clearly wasn't fukking with "Vlod" addresses the points made in these posts.

U-God may be grumpy as hell lol but he's right with a lot of the shyt he said about RZA and how he totally dropped the ball many times.

Who did U sign to for his debut?
RZA w/ Wu-Tang Records
What happened to the label after not recouping on U-God's release when it underperformed?
It folded.

Who did U sign to for his 4th album (5th if you count Hillside)?
RZA w/ Soul Temple
This label was poorly managed and folded after Keynote Speaker.

Who was the only one in the Clan out there supporting U for his debut?
RZA

Who was called out live on the air and admitted to spreading lies about RZA to create drama to sell his newest release?
U-God

U may have some legit gripes but he often omits all that RZA did for him at the same time which skews the story. Complaining about the Fam releases when those established the Wu-Tang Records label that put it in the position to sign him to an advance comparable to the other core Clan members when he couldn't get a deal anywhere else (and you know it was at least higher than Loud which had first rights for solos) is just not understanding the situation.

A Better Tomorrow is legit one of his best verses and one of the best verses on the album

Yo, curses from war, innocent blood spills for days
Soothe in godly ways, hands, solemn in praise
Tree of life, more precious than rubies, golden game
The wise shall flourish inherit, Halls of Fame
Crime visions in my blood got me locked in prison
While we die, hard-livin' people whine about religion, vision
Blow, spin, and sin and killin' what's revealin'
It's a never endin' battle with no endin' or beginnin', listen
Zero process, progress, become the hunted
America's most wanted, good life, flaunt it, want it
Some love the speed, some satisfy a need
Some wanna be down, young gun seed, jungle breed
The strong must feed, someone die, someone bleed
One flew astray, and it caught my little seed
Can it be? The ice savage, trife life, made me grab the knife
The righteous man was beat with many stripes, pipes
Take in my energy, breathe and know the rest
'Cause the good die young and the hard die best

:wow:

Naaaaa

Meth was significantly weaker. Odb came nicer than meth did.

Ugod is imo top 4/5 realistically

Deck
Rae
Rza
Ghost
Ugod

People sleep on rae on the album. He powers thru the album with little to zero flaws almost a repeat of his ironman performance.

Meth and masta killa are on the lower end. And neither ahead of gza even with his fewest verses on entire thing but tbeyre all classics. Maria and dog shyt were odb songs thru and thru and had more impact than damn near every meth verse. His shyt got too slow. Would have liked some more energy from him on there. And no meth verse even great ones like bells of war messing with odbs reunited verse. Tho he holds down the start nice, not like 36.

Diesel should have made it. Needed to be there.

Ugods best verses on forever, impossible abt and bells of war are incredible.

And black shampoo is unfairly hated on.

Agreed. I think Meth even said he was kinda over the whole thing and was kinda mailing it in. You can tell his energy is lower on some tracks.

I remember I decided never to talk to a Wu head again way back then cause the average mafukka would say UGod was the 1 let down on WTF. :childplease:

And nikka was outstanding with every verse he had.
Dude sounded like Zeus commanding the lower gods into action with each verse.
