its crazy how most people dont know about this.

i know about it from somebody on SOHH.

i know tons of jodeci fans that have no clue. im not trying to spread this chit around like that.

i told my mom the other day, since shes the one that owns the jodeci stuff i grew up on. she was like :mindblown:

You gotta realize though that it was downplayed as a "home invasion" attack. They left that other part out for obvious reasons. Only reason I found it out was through my cousin, who lived in Teaneck, NJ at the time.

What's crazy is, Jodeci unknowingly made a career move to avoid, what we all would later call, the Bad Boy death trap and still got caught in the end by another monster (Death Row) on some Final Destination shyt.

last couple of yrs...tim been rydin the coattails of a nikka out of ft worth tx... j-rock harmon...u go back now and a couple more yrs...u will see timb name right beside his...hell he even made suit n tie

:camby: with this. J-Roc also co-produced the BP3 songs, the majority of Shock Value 3, "Ghetto Techno", all of which people wrote Timbo off as :flabbynsick: for. Now all of a sudden, he's riding the coattails of the guy that was working with him during that period. Now that Timbaland's had a resurgence, people want to credit J-Roc and claim Timbo was riding his coattails.

And regarding J-Roc's contribution to "Suit & Tie":

"Those 'old-new keyboards that sound like Sanford and Son' on 'Suit & Tie'? That was J-Roc"

http://nymag.com/arts/cultureawards/2013/timbaland/index4.html

J-Roc without Timbaland sounds like this:

^^^ Co-produced w/ Polow Da Don

^^^ Co-produced w/ Polow Da Don

Timbaland solo sounds like this:

^^^ no co-productions

That's another thing about J-Roc, he doesn't have solo productions. He's either co-producing or playing keyboards (and or organs) on songs. He started out playing keys and organs on Kirk Franklin albums before being discovered by Timbaland.

@JustCKing

what timbaland resurgence are you talking about?

2013.

From 2010 - 2012, Timbaland wasn't really getting placements like that. During that period, he only had Keri's sophomore album, a placement on Drake's YMCMB debut, a bonus track on Chris Brown's FAME album, and the two Missy singles that came out near the end of 2012. In 2013, there was the two Justin Timberlake albums, the bulk of Jay Z's Magna Carta, several songs on Beyonce's latest album, the Juicy J/Justin Timberlake song, and a song with Robin Thicke.

A solid argument could be made for him running 2013. He produced several huge songs and albums all within the same calendar year.

- Justin Timberlake's 20/20 Experience Pt. 1 debuted at #1 and became the biggest seller of 2013. That album was helmed by Timbaland

- Jay Z's Magna Carta debuted at #1 and was one of the biggest albums of 2013 also helmed by Timbaland

- Justin's 20/20 Experience Pt. 2 debuted at #1 also helmed by Timbaland

- Timbaland produced/co-produced three songs on Beyonce's new album and he had additional production on her current single

- "Holy Grail", "Suit & Tie" and "Mirrors" were all Top 5 hits

^^^ What other producer accomplished that in 2013?

Speaking of Devante and Suge

24o85yo.jpg

Where's the source of this? The person writing it must have gotten their timing way off. Left Eye died in 2002, Crooked I left in 2004, Kurupt left spring 2005, and Petey Pablo started rolling with Suge in Spring 2005. There wasn't one time period where all four of them were on the label at the same time (even then Left Eye, Kurupt, and Crooked I were only on the label simultaneously for 4 months). DeVante was rumored to be doing some production for Death Row but that was before Kurupt and Left Eye joined the label.

The impact was that "Suit & Tie" it blew up in the midst of Dub-Step and EDM influenced Pop that was dominating at the time. After that song, songs like "Blurred Lines", Chris Brown's "Fine China" etc. were being released and doing well.

Magna Carta Holy Grail had songs that weren't even singles in rotation

In terms of the impact of JT's albums, the production blurred the lines of Pop and R&B to the point that the 20/20 Experience is erroneously considered R&B.
