You talking about two different things.

BLM and Occupy got co-opted by capitalists,
not by a bunch of different interests who want similar things. Hence why one became a movement sponsored by the Walmart Foundation and the other became a Real Estate empire.

The Civil Rights movement had communists leading it, had a focus on women’s rights while also focusing on black political equality.

Getting a mass of people to work on a cause, like labor and higher wages in the creative industry, is how you have effective movements. Solidarity is important.

In Denmark, McDonalds entered the country and tried to undercut the standard wages of the country. Workers across the country striked in support to show solidarity because they knew their wages would be undercut. Now McDonalds workers in Denmark make 22.50 an hour.

Thats dope seeing unions actually support each other and use their leverage to get mcdonalds to play ball fairly. Here in the states someone is getting their pockets stuffed or individuals will look after self then the whole collective

Indeed

And in America, we see ourselves more as consumers than workers. It’s why you see people in this thread upset that their shows aren’t going to start on time.

TBH, I don't think Bill Maher said anything crazy in that clip. A lot of writers and actors do believe they deserve and are owed that lavish Hollywood lifestyle, for many it's the reason why they got into show business in the first place and they are not owed that. Some will get there and most will never have that life.

There's a lot of real gripes coming from the writers and actors though so for Maher or anyone to focus on "the other side of it" is dumb.
You have entitled people on every side though. Studio heads aren't owed anything either and they are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more entitled than the writers :mjlol:

but that's been my point in this thread. The actors/writers have been going about this all wrong. They are trying to win a PR battle and they won't because A) the studios don't care and B) the public perception is that Hollywood actors are pampered rich folks who are complaining about not being rich enough.

It doesn't matter if "most" writers and actors are working paycheck to paycheck, the ones who are filthy rich and have had checkered backgrounds are going to ruin it for everyone else.

The battle has to be won with monetary pressure on the studios. Why aren't they striking up more deals with independent studios right now and getting people back to work? There will be months where the theaters are bare. Make some indie movies and get them out there. Major studios will start to get pressed.

I'm just hoping the actors, writers, and FX people can hold out. This is important as they're the ones who actually make the stories. If they fold, they'll just allow the talentless people at the top to continue making money off their backs.

Hopefully in their spare time they're looking at ways to make their own platforms and bread. There's some developers who would love to work with artists and writers to make a visual novel, or maybe they can create some storytime YouTube channel.

If they're getting paid poorly anyway (with poor benefits to boot), who cares about the box office? They're ignoring their most powerful tool if they don't engage in these smaller internet avenues. Unless you're gorgeous, you're probably not gonna be the multimillion dollar actor/actress anyway. Unless you're plugged in, you probably won't make the scripts that sell for millions anyway.

Just saw the recent TMNT movie is already streaming. These fukks can’t wait until 2+ months? :what:

Early streaming is done. It just takes away from profit. Mu fukkas still pirate, so it just expands bootlegging early.
They get to throw it on their streaming service in hopes of getting subscribers.

Keeping it in the theaters means they have to keep splitting with them.

It's insane Barbie just made $13M in its 7th week of release and they're about to put it on streaming.

They need to treat these movies on streams like they did with movies and physical media. Wait 3-4 monhts at least.
