The cost of AAA gaming has ballooned so much companies are unwilling to take risks. But the Indie scene was been great.

I’m overall pretty happy where gaming is right now. But it is an interesting topic. The games we dreamt about as kids are now pretty much here full stop, and have been here since like 2015. Especially if you grew up as an RPG fan. But going forward whats really next? I think gaming has actually peaked in the last 2 generations. VR was supposed to be the next step, but I don’t think with all the setup and bs that comes with it, people are ready to fully adopt.

:obama:That's where my mind is at. RPGs are the main types of games I like to play, and I am satisfied with what has come out this generation.

mayne speak for yourself :childplease:

my dream open-universe space RPG with seamless planetary landings still doesn't exist yet. No Man's Sky is too cartooney, simplistic & shallow. Starfield was supposed to that game but was a massive disappointment and underachieved in every possible way :snoop:

Star Citizen is the closest thing and will prolly never be finished :wow:

PS3 era is woat.

coming off the PS2, sony was poised to take over the world, unlimited good will with consumers, track record, customer satisfaction etc etc. the end of the PS2 was the legit the best time to be a GAMER. online was just starting to bubble and it was free. the library of the PS2 to this day is unmatched,

then the PS3 dropped, absurd price, dearth of game, 360 taking shine, backwards compatibilty snatched from the consumer. it wasnt until years into the cycle that we got a decent library. this is the generation that companies stopped taking chances. where creativity was sacrificed for the bottom line.
COD, Fifa, 2k, etc became the drivers.

PS4 did well but the damage was done.

I'd say this is the worst era on how things are discussed these days.

Everybody is clout chasing. There are no surprises because somebody, somewhere wants their 15 mins and leaks things.

White boys who complained about politics in gaming are now inserting politics in gaming. If the main character isn't a white man.

YouTube is a cesspit of unwashed cacs telling you why a game is bad or good. Twitter is even worse from what I hear

Xbox brehs becoming PC brehs. Man, I don't want to go there.

There are more games being released and less reviews. I used to go any gaming outlet site and see reviews. You hardly see that anymore. Now they go to the hot topic or discuss non gaming related nerd culture.

It was not until social media that I encountered these types of racist nerds. Prior to social media, you would only see them on gaming message boards. You can't look up a game on YouTube without seeing a video from one of those anti-woke mouth breathers nerds. They're like rush limbaugh of the 21st century.

For me gaming peaked in the 90s through about 2006.
From the late 8-bit era (with Mega Man 2 and 3, Punch-out and Mario 3) all the way through the 16-bit era up to the end of the PS2/GameCube run in ‘06.
