Jackie Joyner-Kersey was exceptional in the heptathlon, but she was never a megastar bigger than the sport. The heptatlon is still the heptathlon, even if you're very good. So she maximized her talent as long as she could to keep food on the table.

Michael Johnson flopped in the '92 Olympics, so he stayed hungry for '96. After killing it in '96 in 200m and 400m ... He won gold in the 400m only at the 2000 Olympics, but was running slower times..

Carl Lewis won gold in 100m in 1984. He DID NOT become bigger than the sport. Coke rescinded a previous endorsement offer and he got dropped by Nike after the Olympcs. Plus if you were alive back then you'd know people generally didn't give a fukk about track at the time ...So Lewis stayed hungry with something to prove. He won in '88 by default, and that was his last sprinting gold. (Interesting tho how suspect it is to me that he finally set a world record in '91 at age 30... this after having been a teammate of Flo-Jo.)

:ehh:

Do you have other tries at previous Usain Bolts or Micheal Phelps repeating?

the only way Bolt will not win is if he 1. gets DQ from start, or gets beat by blake...Regardless its a win win for team JA

Nowadays ESPN talks about 4 golds in 1984 as an historic moment. It was. But when it happened people didn't really give a shyt. Remember that we're watching those highlights today, when track is big.

4 trackNfield gold medals and dropped by Nike? Coke didn't want him no more? Think about it.

For the record, team usa has been the cockiest team from day one, you have no place to be cocky when juicing people like Maurice Green:comeon: The whole 90's era of sprinters men and women used to be cocky and you are supposed to win when doping. As soon as they got caught, and medals were pulled, no longer were they dominant in this event.

Oh a guy dances and has fun and people all of a sudden get mad because they are not on top and now want to call it cocky and unsportsmanlike...:beli:

I personally chilled with Bolt a few times and he is down to earth as hell, we had this same convo about people getting mad @ what he does, he is having fun. An to say Team JA is cocky you have the most humble athlete Asafa powell who is a quiet religious dude, and Yohan Blake who is humble as hell...GFTOH lol..check my sig:win:

U forgot to add that Michael Johnson had food poisonin in 92 thats why he flopped. And he was runnin slower times because a) he was old and b) he dominated where its impossible to dominate for so long as he did. From 89-00

And Carl Lewis was probably the main person who help get Track and Field from amateur to pros status.

jamaica was always there before 2000 Merlene Otty, Linford Christy who ran for G.B. in 96, Ben Johnson (ran for canada) Don Quarrie (former record holder in 70s)my uncles running partner back in the day..George Kerr my cousin , Herb McMckinly, Author Wimp in early days..We have alot history

Alot of sprinting history and now facilities have expanded since the country and sponsors have pump millions in training on the island.
