Gerrit Cole: B+. I should lower it to a B- after tonight, but he was everything we wanted, except for when we needed it. He has to be better in big spots. Otherwise he'll regret signing here.
Corey Kluber: D+. Honestly, he only gets that for the no-hitter.
Jameson Taillon: C-. He's a #4-#5 starter on a team apparently filled with them. Not the answer if we're looking for a frontline starter.
Jordan Montgomery: C+ Should lower it to a C after that TB start, but honestly, the Yankee bats did him the dirtiest because they never scored for him. Ran out of gas toward the end.
Nestor Cortes: B+. The Shawn Chacon of this year's team. Wasted a wildly surprising revival year for him. I'd keep him as a spot starter (Ramiro Mendoza style)
Domingo German: D. At this point, we have too many arms we can develop to keep worrying about German.
Michael King: D+ He's not a starter. He's an opener at best. Long relief. Keep him if everything goes to hell, but he's far low on the options for rotation starter.
Luis Severino: Incomplete: Just be healthy next year, no setbacks. Compared to Cole, I have renewed hope for him.
The pen:
Aroldis Chapman: C+. He had that horrible stretch from May to early July. Since that time, he was an adventure, but he wasn't garbage. That said, if someone wants him in a trade, see ya. If not, make him the 8th inning guy.
Jonathan Loaisiga: A-. Answered the call this year and should be the favorite to close. He was really good.
Chad Green: F. He can no longer be trusted. Remember how trash he was year 1? He's back to that.
Albert Abreu: B-. If he gets a secure role, Yankees may have something with him.
Wandy Peralta and Clay Holmes: A-'s for both. Cashman's 2 best acquisitions this year. Holmes was the best reliever here since he got here. WandyVision was a great fireman when Chapman got wild.
Lucas Luetge: C+ He settled into the Luis Cessa role well.
Gil/Garcia/Schmidt: rotation spots are there for you. With new managers and a different fukking philosophy, may they actually be developed correctly. Otherwise, why bother?
The Milwaukee Brewers have Woodruff, Peralta, Houser, and Burnes, mostly homegrown. They let them rock. We'll never know if we have those guys because this team is paralyzed by fukking numbers. Maybe a year in 4th place where all we can focus on is player development will help because whether they have ERA's of 2 or 7, let them develop.
