That was such a dumb deal for Hicks. He's a hitter in the same vein as Gallo in that he's pull heavy and rarely goes the other way. There were better players on the market but we had to give Cashman's favorite player a 7 year contract. Dude has hit above .250 two out of nine years and has a career 729 OPS.

Cashman has to go for this team to get another title.

Playoffs need to show the Yankees that it's not 100% worth it to be Tampa

That and honestly, the pitching isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is. They can fix a lot of their pitching woes internally with some actual faith and confidence in their system. One or two of them will emerge and if they don't believe it, flip them now.

Cole
Severino
Montgomery
Taillon
Two of Gil/Schmidt/Garcia

Cortes spot starting/long relief

Loaisiga
Chapman
Holmes
Wandy
Abreu
Ridings (he should replace Green)
Rodriguez

the offense is broken though.

We should be more like the Sox not the Rays.

Regular season they can have a good to great staff again,.They had one of the best regular season staffs this year and their ace got embarrassed in the playoffs.

Cashman hasn't put two good postseason starters together in over a decade.
Severino has almost a 6 postseason ERA
Cole cant get anyone out without some flubber on the ball
Monty's slop cant hold off great offenses in the playoffs
Taillon who knows how much stamina he has come playoff time (if we make it), 200 IP in the last 3 years. Has great stuff though.
Cortez more likely to have a 5 ERA next year than one under 3.

That bullpen looks pretty trash starting with the king of postseason chokers, Chapman.
Loaisiga is great, but health is a huge concern. The rest are scrubs (Joely, Abreu) or players who can easily revert once the league sees them more (Holmes/Wandy). King looks like a key piece and Ridings stuff looked good but probably trash. Even if they by some miracle have a shutdown pen in the postseason, they gonna come into the game down 3 in the 3rd or 4th inning with these starters.

which is why they might as well let the youngins pitch already. Let them take their lumps if they have to.

As for being like Boston, their starters aren't even that good outside of Eovaldi (who is good every other year). They took fliers on some guys and they've come through.

Garrett Whitlock was a guy they claimed as a Rule 5 guy from the Yankees and look at his numbers in his rookie year this year. They hit on a pitcher simply by giving him the opportunity. The Yankees with some of those bullpen arms (Wandy, Holmes and especially Loaisiga who had the yips before this season) just need opportunity and it might just benefit them. They have to do it with the starters too.

I knew a long time ago that Hicks wasn’t shyt and that season he had was a fluke.

The Yankees were legit shook of contact because they kept grounding into double plays. Their entire approach is off.

The Astros and White Sox were 3rd and 4th in GIDP, but watch them hit with RISP. They get back breaking hits. The Yankee team batting average was 30 points behind the Astros and Red Sox. shyt gotta change there.
