It's kind of good that these hoaxes are brought to light. Some people have a childlike naivete of the world and believe random violence from strangers is common because its sensational and gets clicks on the news. Stories like this force them to acknowledge the truth about human nature.

I remember people being suspicious of the two's behaviour during interviews and suspicious of the the initial story.
Story never made any sense. No panhandler would be out in that raggedy neighborhood at that time of night, nor would anybody in there right mind would stop for some stranger while driving through there.
