You don't want to respect the property use something else, but wolverine is a midget. That's part of his character.

Jack reacher movies were successful with Tom cruise, they fukked up the height to make a Tom cruise movie and fans of the property were not happy about it. Singer destroyed the X-Men as characters but had successful movies, profitability doesn't equate with respecting source material and it isn't a pass for ignoring it
