The Hawks have agreed on a three-way trade with the Nuggets and the Clippers that will return Jamal Crawford, Diamond Stone, a protected first-round pick and cash, according to a person familiar with the situation. The deal was worked on into the early morning hours Tuesday and agreed upon later in the day. The deal can not be announced until after the NBA moratorium period ends Friday.

The Clippers would receive Danilo Gallinari in a sign-and-trade from the Nuggets in the other major part of the proposed deal. The Nuggets recently agreed to a three-year, $90 million deal with Hawks unrestricted free agent Paul Millsap on Sunday. For salary-cap purposes, the Nuggets must complete the three-team deal before they are able to sign Millsap. Technically, the Hawks won’t receive direct compensation for losing Millsap, but the three-team trade essentially brings a return.
The Nuggets will receive a second-round pick from the Hawks, a 2019 pick acquired from the Wizards.
The big piece of the trade for the Hawks is the first-round draft pick, the top-three protected selection in 2018 that the Clippers received from the Rockets. New Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk expressed a plan that includes rebuilding through the draft, and the pick will be a major asset.
As for the players the Hawks would receive, Crawford expressed a strong desire not to return to Atlanta, according to a person familiar with the situation. The shooting guard and perennial Sixth Man Award winner played for the Hawks for two seasons from 2009-11. The Hawks could waive, trade or buy out Crawford if they choose to work with him or he could play for the Hawks next season under his current contract. Crawford is due $14,246,988 next season and $14,500,000 in 2018-19.
Stone was a second-round pick (No. 40) of the Pelicans in 2016 out of Maryland and went to the Clippers in a draft-night trade. The center appeared in only seven games for the Clippers last season and averaged 1.4 points and 0.9 rebounds in 3.4 minutes.
Stone is said to have shown some growth in the past year, but needs development. He has played in the G League for the Santa Cruz Warriors and Salt Lake City Stars.
The Atlanta Hawks have been active since losing Paul Millsap to the Denver Nuggets, facilitating a three-way trade to garner assets for the future. On Tuesday evening, word broke that the Hawks aren’t close to done and two members of the Boston Celtics are now reportedly in Atlanta’s crosshairs.
First, a report surfaced that the Hawks could be in the mix for a trade that would bring Jae Crowder back to Atlanta, where he starred at nearby Villa Rica High School. Then, moments later, Kelly Olynyk’s name popped up in the aftermath of the Celtics renouncing his restricted free agent rights.
No picks or players, unless Jamal Crawford, for either one of themHawks interested in Crowder and O'lynk
1. Houston traded away 30 ppg to LA. Paul and Tucker will absorb most of that production. Honestly, I didn't see how they finished with the 3rd best record in the NBA with that roster last season.
Right now, they have next to no depth and didn't add any talent in the draft. Stranger things have happened before but it could go sideways for them. I don't wish injury on Harden or Paul but fukk them nikkas. Our franchise needs a break to happen and this could be it. Not holding bated breath tho.
2. Just don't see the connection that Ainge allegedly has with the Hawks. He probably wants to dump salary and take on a pick but they need vets. Dwight would have made some sense for them with all that offensive firepower they now possess.
3. Crawford is due 14 million this season and only 3 is guaranteed for next from what I understand. It would be best to play him during the season and flip him. Curious to see how his situation plays out.
The Boston Celtics landed their man earlier this evening, as Gordon Hayward announced (five hours after it had already leaked) that he would officially be signing with Boston. However, the Celtics don’t have enough cap space at this point to sign Hayward outright, and it’s already been reported that Hayward won’t be taking less than his full maximum salary to accommodate his new team.
This means that Boston will need to shed salary, and Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe is hearing that it will be Jae Crowderwhom the Celtics will move to create space and that the Atlanta Hawks could be the destination.
Crowder is an excellent player on what is perhaps the best value contract in the league (three years remaining on a five-year, $35 million deal), so the Hawks would consider themselves lucky to receive him. Boston couldn’t take back much salary, but perhaps the first-round pick Atlanta will receive as part of the trade with the Nuggets and Clippers will go to Boston. The Hawks also have Minnesota’s lottery-protected first-round pick in next year’s draft (and another from Cleveland in 2019) that could be sent out for the soon-to-be 27-year-old Crowder.
• The Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, Miami Heat and Sacramento Kings all have interest in free agent CJ Miles, who is expected to take visits soon. (Darren Wolfson, 5 Eyewitness News)
I wouldn't mind a pick for Jae Crowder. He's a proven NBA talent with 3 years left on a great deal. I think if you're the hawks you gotta see about that. Obviously not our own pick, but any one of the Cleveland Houston or Minny picks can go.
Would it be impossible for them to be on the floor together? I just think having Prince, Belli, maybe Hardaway, Bazemore and Crowder would be an excellent rotation. Got a couple who could play small ball 4, plenty shooting and defenseBut him and Taurean play the same position. I like TP.
But I really thought BazedGawd turned the corner
