With Skyscraper flopping, does The Rock need to change his gameplan?

Who said that The Rock wanted those roles? I've only said that I'd like to see him in them.

Edit -- you're probably just referring to the tweet, my bad.

And GoW is in development, they have a screenwriter since 2017 but there haven't been updates.

Yup referring to the tweet. Cats are assuming Rock's agent is missing but Rock knows what types of roles he wants to do and what he doesn't want to do. Just like Batista

Exactly, plus Dave's roles are almost all supporting roles, Rock is always the star and all his movies are collaborations with his Seven Bucks company.

Yup. Very rarely does he get into bed with someone without having a big say in what goes on behind the scenes.

I know I know, the movie will make bank in China. We ain't in China.

Rock is clearly the biggest movie star out but his run past year has been kind of inconsistent. Baywatch flopped hard. Jumanji absolutely killed it. Rampage did above expectations. And Skyscarper will be a big dud.

Is he over-saturating himself? Should he slow down on all the movies he puts out a year or just take his losses when he can and keep it moving?

He’s an over achiever as it is

I have been saying for a while that the Rock really is not responsible for Jumanji's success. Jack Black and especially Kevin Hart play into the movie's success a ton to be honest. Rampage is not a bomb, but it is not some roaring success either.
I was just about to say as I was reading. The only films that were a home run are the ones with other people in em...

Dave out here :eat:

And he's made it known he wants the lead in Gears Of War

That's my action movie star.

:wow:

So we gonna just conveniently ignore Hotel Artemis flopping and the 20 or so straight to Red Box movies that Dave has been putting out on the regular since he became an actor?

I just want one movie that I can throw in alongside the classic action movies.

I don't feel like he has one.

DOOM seems like it would be one of those kinds of movies but it might have been too early into his career.

I think it scared him off.

I'm way more impressed with Bautista in how he picks roles and his performances. I hope he breaks out with a leading role soon.
Like I posted in the Box Office Tracking thread, The Rock's box office hits and misses really make no kinda sense:
I have always found the Rock's box office performance in movies where he is the above the title star to be odd and hard to predict.

Look at the movies where The Rock was the de facto star of the show and try to figure out why some were more successful than others:

Think he does better when he is part of an ensemble or has a comedy partner to bounce off of? Well explain why Baywatch was such a disappointment when it followed that formula.

Skyscraper is looking like it will perform middling at the box office yet San Andreas was also a disaster movie where The Rock was running around trying to save his family from whatever disaster was going on and it was a massive hit.

Planet 51 was an animated movie with the Rock as the lead voice actor and it flopped...Moana was an animated movie with the Rock as lead actor and it was a huge hit. Of course that most likely had more to do with Moana being a Pixar movie.

The Rock stars in a remake of a beloved kids movie and the results couldn't be more different: Race to With Mountain struggled at the box office while Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was insanely successful.

The Rock stars in a movie based on a video game and you get a mega-flop like Doom on one hand and a hit like Rampage on the other.

The only thing consistent about him is that when he comes on board an already established property and becomes the star of it the movie makes bank as evidenced by how successful Journey 2 and GI Joe Retaliation were.

:wow:

Rock not playing 3rd or 4th fiddle to a racc00n and/or a tree voiced by Vin in Guardians
Rock not playing Jaws 2.0 with no lines for 007
Rock not getting killed by Goslin in the first 10 minutes in 2049
If Rock wants to be Kratos, he will be Kratos
