Also, every theater around me has crazy good deals with refillable tubs and tons of easily found coupons....

I see at least one movie a week, sometimes 3 or 4.

I have MoviePass which gets me the ticket covered ($35/month)...but I get a large coke and sm/med popcorn for $3 TOTAL with the combination of coupons and refillable tub/cup. It's not even a challenge to get these deals.

Both Cinemark and Carmike offer things like this here....can't beat it.

You can't compare cameras, CDs, to movies. It's like saying bars will be obsolete in the near future. You can buy a bottle of whatever for the price you pay at a bar or club. You can play your music, wear whatever you want in the confines of your own home, and don't have to worry about long lines, admission prices. etc. So why do people still go to bars/clubs?Restaurants, you can cook that ish at home, so why go out? To get out the house, the social atmosphere...even people watch. I believe that most people don't want to sit in the house for everything. Some people like to go out and enjoy being around people. Some things can't be simulated, no matter how much you want them to be, and people are unpredictable. But on the flip side, I'm sure there are some people out there that can't wait to have surrogate representations out themselves out in the real world.

! agree w!t you for the most part but... me & w!fey l!ke to get the k!ds together, play games & watch mov!es, thats interact!n... ! cant stand when ! go to the bar & my guy s!t !n the corner qu!et all n!ght & be l!ke ! was out be!n soc!al.... that means ! could go to walmart & say the same sh!t... ! cant cook a b!g mac, ! aint be!n soc!al cause ! order 1 !n a crowded mcds... ! enjoy be!n around d!fferent people cause !m outgo!n, interact!ve & soc!al.... you go to a bar/club to meet new people, k!ck it, dr!nk, etc... you walk up & engage some random ch!ck !n a dark theater breh, ! never tr!ed that...

Thing is..everyone wants to see the new shyt. Do they want to shell out the money for it IMMEDIATELY? That's the trend that is iffy. If you have a nice theater experience that is pliable in your home on some Shaq level shyt, then you would have no need to go to the movies. Not everyone has endless means though, as you obviously understand. There's a market for it all though..the movie goers..the bootleggers..the Blu Ray/DVD market that recoup losses.

It's interesting to see how this thread started and where it's at now. This is not as far fetched as people tried to proclaim it was at the beginning. Obviously people have way more options to get their entertainment now more than ever. Theaters are going to have to step their game up in the coming years or they will lose more consumers. I'm still laughing at Hollywood bringing out all these inflated Box Office numbers when prices keep going up and up. As for the "Social Experience", I've grown tired of people acting a fool when I watch a movie. When I was a teen, I wasn't loud in the theater but Teens today are even more loud than ever. I wouldn't compare it to a bar cause when you go to a bar you are likely to talk to a stranger in that setting. I don't talk to people like that in a theater.

by that you mean?

Even if the movie theater goes away, I wouldn't say it will be for the better. Look at the Arcade. Online gaming just isn't the same as being at the arcade. Hell, I don't even play fighting games anymore because online feels like I'm still playing against the AI

Well looks like I might of been onto something with this thread. The Two GOATS of CINEMA Steven Spielberg and George Lucas think studios and theaters are going to be in trouble cause movies are flopping to much and ticket cost are raising to high:

That is more about the financing of/gambling on blockbuster films...not so much about the theater experience.

Actually it has everything to do with theaters. Steven and George was saying Studios are being more and more cautions with movies and that a few more flops will completely change the theater experience. Steven said tickets could end up costing 150 Dollars. Who's going to pay for that? Steven also said cable television will be more creative then film. If these two guys see a business shift coming, it's time to listen. They are the MASTERS of Blockbuster. "Jaws" created the Summer Blockbusters and "Star Wars" revolutionized it.
